"The book of revelation". Quite bizarre..not that I really recommend it, just it was the last movie I saw. Kind of aestheticized porn (at least for the one third of the movie), with some fabula that could've be more worked on to so that everything make sense (at least to me).

Fair Wind to Java https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045743

Not good. I don't recommend it. It has all of the dull clichés that you would expect from a 1950s adventure film--gratuitous fist fights, woman in distress, rescued by a hero. Unfortunately, I fell asleep before the volcano eruption.

Krakatoa East of Java is much better: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064555/

Last night we watched:

Cell [2016]
<=>"When everyone is connected no one is safe"

Sort of a zombie flick. There is some kind of noise coming from cellphones and if you hear it you become part of the flock of crazy people.

My bride sometimes said it was "Good", sometimes "OK". I just went with "OK".

But, it is okay...though certainly not profound.

The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038123

Some of you might find the movie relatable--it is about a woman who interferes with her brother's romance. Very well acted, clever script.

We Have Always Live in the Castle (2018) on Hulu
Hulu says it was made in 2024, but I've watched it before when it was released. I'd previously read the book by Shirley Jackson. I don't recall if I was aware that Crispin Glover is in it. I believe I originally saw it in the theater. I remember seeing the preview and immediately recognized it as Shirley Jackson's story. I read the book in late 1999.
Regardless, I really like this story and film.

The Trials of Oscar Wilde: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054403/

A very good movie. Some of you who write would probably enjoy it.

Oscar was very witty, but his wittiness backfired on him when he was on trial and his answer to the prosecutor's question "Why didn't you kiss him?" was "Because he was ugly."

Ginger Snaps (2000) on Peacock.

A tale about two sisters, one who gets infected as a lycanthrope (werewolf) on the first day she gets "the curse" (menstrual cycle).

Facts about the film. Not fun, just facts, and not many. Don't bother with popcorn.

Emily Perkins (Bridgette) plays the 15 year old sister of the Katharine Isabelle's 17 year old character (Ginger). Factually speaking, Emily Perkins is 4 years older than Katharine Isabelle. Emily was 23 when the film was released.
Danielle Hampton plays Trina, school chum (not at all a "chum") of Ginger and Bridgette. She has eyes for the local drug dealer, Sam, and grows jealous of Bridgette when Sam calls on Bridgette to brain storm the lycanthropy problem. Trina bullies Bridgette because she is smaller. The IMDB thing I noticed was her biography (partial sample) --

Danielle Hampton is a very unique actress. Half Irish and part native indian, her exotic look keeps audiences guessing and mesmerized. She has mastered the role of seductress and her characters command power and confidence. This is an actress who "...takes prisoners...". Danielle was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She started training in dance at the age of 10 and mastered jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, ballroom and modern dance. In her preteens, Danielle participated in professional broadway-style musicals and shows as well as some commercials.

There is more.
I expected her to be active in films and wondered if I'd seen her in anything else. She was in 14 films between 1999 and 2011. No shame in that. She was also in 26 of the 105 episodes of the series Paradise Fall (season 2 of 3). I've never seen it, but I've never seen MANY things.
When I initially read it, I thought who ever wrote this is definitely a fan, and they are articulate. I just noticed that Danielle Hampton wrote the biography. That's cool. You know she got the facts right. Although, honest to God, I never once considered her exotic look, nor did I consider guessing.

Le soldatesse/The Camp Followers (1965)

Quote:

In WWII, Lieut. Martino and his men are assigned to lead a group of prostitutes through the mountainous ways to serve in brothels for Italian soldiers in Albania.

Being an Italian movie, from the description, you might expect another sexploitation flic. But, no. This was 1965. No T&A.

Still, a very good war movie. I highly recommend it. :wtg:

Recently someone who was in our house was interested in the collection of videos on the shelves. Last night we decided to watch one of the ones that caught his interest:

Black Sheep [2006]
<=>"The sheep on this farm have turned to the baaaaaad side"

This is the kind of horror movie I prefer...FUN!

IMDb's list of plot keywords for this movie includes "weresheep". :)

I was aware of the sequel, but not the prequel. I should look those up as well, and put them in my watch list on whatever streaming service I find them. My watch lists are getting ridiculously long. Plus I have some DVD collections I would like to finish and start. I still have about two years of Dark Shadows to finish. I started that ages of ago, as well as some Korean series.

Thank you Kraichgauer. <Insert a polite South Korean bow here>

You're welcome! The prequel goes back to colonial times.
