Why does Bilbo Baggins twitch his nose a lot?

Are you talking about the recent Peter Jackson movies of "The Hobbit"? The actor who plays Bilbo uses that sort of facial gesture sometimes--he does it occasionally in "Sherlock", too. In the books Tolkien writes about hobbits' keen sense of smell, so maybe Martin Freeman played up that gesture a bit to indicate it.

Don't forget he forgot his handkerchief.
