I've just started yesterday watching 1985 screening of this novel and after first 30 minutes I'm completely fascinated with it - despite everything it's really kind movie, and main character Anne SHirley living in world of her fantasies, daydreaming, having imaginary friend is highly familiar for me.
Does anybody else loves this movie or novel too?

Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favourite books.
I have the video of the 1985 movie but when I got my DVD recorder I bought the DVD of it, I found there were extras in it that were cut out in the video.
Its a lovely story I wish RL was like that.

That's great :-) I was sure I'll found somebody here who loves these novel as well.

I rarely watch such movies but recommendations were so great so I couldn't just pass by it.

Do you think 1985 video represents the novel properly?

The First one was closer to the book than the second one when Anne went to teach at Kingsport ladies college,
There were a few things twisted around in that one.
But I still enjoyed it.

When she went through the haunted wood in the book Marilla made her to teach her not to imagine Ghosts into places, in the Movie both Anne and Diana went through because she didn't want help from Gilbert.
But they probably couldn't fit everything from the book in a movie.

Aha, thanks! And what about the third movie, still with same director and cast? I'm not into watching it right now because I can't yet imagine Anne as a married woman but maybe later if it worth.

I was a little disappointed with the third movie in the books by ww1 Gilbert and Anne were married and had two sons in the war, the third movie had Gilbert in the war.
So I don't know why they didn't follow on with the books.

Sons in the war? That's interesting. It should mean they were born not later that 1900 to be at least 17 during the war, more likely even in late 1890's and the marriage should then happen somewhere in 1895-1896. So we can count approximately year of Anne's birth :-) Especially considering the elections from the first book and movie - that should be Canadian Dominion elections of 1891 with Prince Edward island voting for conservatives. How old was she then?

The book was "Rilla of Ingleside" when Anne's Children were all grown up.
I know the book "Anne of Green Gables" was written in 1909 or around that time.

Almost there, first book published in 1908.

Tha's interesting, Wikipedia points year of Anne's birth as 1865 O_o I thought it's closer to the end of the 19th century though I've for now found no inconsistencies, elections in 1878 (two years after she arrived to Island), even trains were already operating there as public transport in 1876.

Anne of Green Gables is one of the greatest stories ever written by one of the greatest Canadian authors who ever lived. I read the book and saw both of the TV movies. I also read Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island. when I was younger I was surprised to learn that many girls in Japan are very fond of the Anne books, and even want to move to PEI. There was even an anime of Anne of Green Gables, which I happened to come across on the French CBC channel one time!

Great! :-) Did you love the anime?

Now it's the second time I want to see the place mentioned in book - Green Gables farm. I think next year I'll find some time to trip there

First time it was from Omen :D
