but it has the advantage of having no scriptwriters, so every time they go on strike, that's why they're all over the place. It's strictly about money.

That's why the BBC system is better.

Greed is destroying American film and television. It's quite sad, really.

Hardly - there are few good programmes on it. If you want a real enemy to go after, it should be the pop-culture and sports programmes. Watching NT's being treated like zoo animals is so much fun at times...

The BBC has reality tv on too. And I totally agree. I hope it dies out, everywhere I look there's another show starting.

I think they American broadcasters should work on more dramatic entertainment other than medical or crime/legal. We just have too much of them, especially reality tv.

As they say, the only thing that's "real" about reality tv is the place where it's shot.

I despise reality TV, except for BBC World News, travelogues, and science programmes like Nova.

Let's get rid of:

    American Idol
Award shows (Oscars, Emmies, Grammies, et cetera)
    Tabloid shows
    Talk shows
    Televised sports
Let's bring back entertainment!

Bad television is only a reflection of boring people. If you don't like it, stop watching it and stop obsessing over it. Society isn't being dumbed down. It was never smart to begin with

Problem is that TV will still suck people other people will still watch it. It won't change the actual content of tv programs.

Worse than that, reality tv makes it seem okay to be rewarded for bad behaviour.

I expect the USA's switch to digital broadcast format will catch most of the more ignorant and passive people unaware - the same people that I assume enjoy reality TV. Then, while they're scrambling to catch up, they'll not be watching Ryan Secrest & Co. That'll leave the rest of us to tune in to commercial-free PBS, and maybe - just maybe - the Powers-That-Be will notice.

"Maybe" being the operative word

Lets give reality tv a slow death, Slowmutant  The worst example is celebrity big brother over here. It has Coolio in it, and he's abusing women, but you just know the producers are keeping him in for viewing figures. Mind you, the women are vile themselves. Any "celebrity" who takes part in these shows to try and revive their career, needs a reality check. Once they've done it, any credibility they had has gone. Wish they'd just f**k off
