Manyof them were "pre-Code" movies in the sense that they were made before a censorship board that was called The Production Code, was applied to (mainstream)American movies!! !! !
They have some decidedly"naughty" elements for the time
(Literally speaking,"ALL"movie then could be considered"Pre-Code",as they were made Pre-Code,but,that's,being silly)
A movie with Barbara Stanwick called "Baby Face" is one of the most famed Pre-Code movies,it has, recently, been re-released in a "naughtier still" version that was found in the vaults!! !! !! !! !
Another movie,with Carole Lombard,called" RED-HEADED WOMAN",is another example.
Both have plots that revolve around the ideer "a poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks
(boof)s her way to the top", an easy and symphathetic plotline in those Depression days.
