NT actors playing autistics

Does anyone else love watching movies where an NT plays an autistic, aspie or mentally challenged character? I enjoy it because I like to see how well they pull it off. A couple of my favorites are Dustin Hoffman in Rainman and Bill Fagerbakke in The Stand.

I like What's Eating Gilbert Grape. It's the obese mother and the brother with mental retardation that makes the movie interesting. Leonardo Dicaprio did such a good job with the character people thought he was actually ret*d. I read that on IMDB.


I also like Benny & Joon, one of my favorites. I don't know if Joon be considered mentally challenged because she is mentally ill. Mary Stuart Masterson did a good job playing her and Johnny Depp plays an eccentric illiterate guy who is aspie like. He has obsessions over old movies and memorizes them and knows lot of facts and he has an obsession over Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin and he acts out their moves. I think that's the reaosn why Joon was attracted to him.


I like watching other movies too that involve mental illnesses, mental disorders, eating disorders and other various problems.

I saw A Beautiful Mind and The Aviator. Both movies kinda scared me... because I have some of the quirks those people did, and I think, "There, but for the grace of God, go I..."

Reign Over Me, the new one with Adam Sandler.
His character's shell-shock is very Aspie-like.

My wife say si am alot like Jack Nicholson in AS Good As it Gets and Monk, but that is more OCD

Oh, yeah, I do enjoy it. I love all movies with weird, quirky characters in them. I am drawn to them for some reason. Do you have a list of favorites? I don't know if the characters are actually autistic, but anything quirky I enjoy watching. Actually, I enjoy movies where characters are just a little off, too. One of my favorites, and it is odd because I don't typically like movies like it, but one of my favorite movies is Regarding Henry wherein Harrison Ford plays a man who suffers brain damage and as a result is very much like a little kid. I dunno.

Yes, I like watching movies with characters I can relate to. I love movies about mental illness on the whole. I probably relate to them better than normal people. Seymour from Ghost World struck me as Aspie.

Also the movie Sybil was interesting, about Multiple Personality Disorder, starring Sally Field. Also the movie Nell. It's about a woman who lived her childhood in a cabin in the woods with her mother and twin. Her mother has a stroke, which affected the way her and her sister spoke and both of them created their own language. Nell stars Jodie Foster.
