...All of these versions didn't have the literal title INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS , BTW .
I always wanted to do a " naughty " Victorian-era?? Edwardian-?? comedy titled INVASION OF THE BODICE SNATCHERS , BTW :P ! 8)

I'm a huge fan Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and I've seen all 4 movies and the series named Invasion which had the same basic idea.

The 1978 version is my favorite, It was the first of the movies I saw and I have no idea how many times I've seen it.

Which two versions have you seen, ASS-P?

1993 is the only version I haven't seen. 2007 isn't the disaster it's made out to be, but it's forgettable. 1956 and 1978 are easily the best two, and I give the edge to 1978.

...The first and second .
I think I've seen the argument that all four movies can be said to be happening in the same universe !
Have you ever read Jack Finney's original novel ? I think it exists in different versions . I had it once , but never fully read it .

...A thought...It has been considerably more years since the 1978 version than had passed between 1956 and '78 but I guess the '78 one looks more " modern " than the '56 version did in the 70s ~ For one thing , of course , there's the disappearance of black and white movies but I think , too , that " looks " , in general , changed lots more between '56 and the 70s than between then & now ! :)

I like the 1978 version the best, insofar that it ends on such a dark note with the hero, played by Donald Sutherland, succumbing to sleep, and becoming ONE OF THEM. I might have chosen the original, had they stuck with the original ending of Kevin McCarthy running through the freeway from car to car like a madman, screaming, "They're here! They're here!" But instead, they had to tack on the happy ending where the authorities apparently have a chance to stop the alien threat.

Huh, I've never thought about it, but I think you're right about that. Interesting, especially since the 70's had its fair share of trends that stood out.

Yes, I have read the original Jack Finney novel, but I have no idea if there is more than one version of it plot wise. It was a captivating read, but it's been some years since I read it. I also don't know how well it was translated (since I read the Norwegian translation of it).
