Why does everybody hate the later Simpsons seasons???
It seems a lot of people, even Simpsons fans, only like seasons 1-10, or others like 1-12, or even just 1-8, whatever it is. But I still enjoy whatever season I'm watching. Well, I haven't seen seasons 18+ yet, as I'm collecting all box sets each year but I'm only up to season 17. I heard that they're going to stop selling Simpsons DVDs altogether, which has really upset me, because I want to collect every box set, right up to 27. Plus it's something I get for Christmas every year, and it's always my main Christmas present and something to really look forward to every year.
Yes, I know that the style of the episodes seem a little different than the earlier seasons. Like say if something bad happens in an episode, the characters don't show the emotion they would of had, instead an off-the-wall joke is thrown in instead. Or they cut to scenes that are completely unrelated to what the episode is supposed to be about. Or a character suddenly makes an appearance on an episode what has nothing to do with that character. Like on season 13 the episode ''The Sweetest Apu'', when Marge and Homer are talking about inviting Apu and Manjula over for dinner, and Homer says ''we've gotta invite Krusty!'' And in another part of the episode they do actually go to Krusty's house. I mean, what the hell has Krusty got to do with the episode and Apu and Manjula breaking up?
The Simpsons movie I wasn't too keen on. It seems way less Simpson-y, and has too many childish jokes what you'd expect to find more in a Disney film with characters like Timon and Pumbaa. Or even Looney Tunes cartoons.
But otherwise, I still love watching the Simpsons. I've accepted that they have changed over the years, but I'm a Simpsons fan and so I'll never just start to hate it. But even that I don't hateit.

There are later seasons? I have a case of fanon discontinuity. Therefore, the later seasons don't exist.
I've heard people online complain about some of the best cartoons from the 90's being cancelled too soon and rarely shown on TV while the sucky ones are still being made or shown about 20 times a day. But if those same good cartoons were still being made everyone would say they've gotten terrible too, like Spongebob.
Because the Simpsons used to be about deep issues that affected nearly everyone but was presented in such a humorous way you could not stop laughing. Celebrities were once used very sparingly to great effect (such as the Softball episode) but now it seems like every second episode is "Homer meets X celebrity", usually a flavour of the month one at that. Homer for example used to be portrayed as a idiot, but a well intended idiot who loved and cared for his family. Now, he is just seen as a walking stereotype.
I also miss such great one liners as:
"Legs: I'm seeing double here..... 4 Krusty's!"
"Homer: Well, are you (Darryl Strawberry) better than me?"
Strawberry: Well I never met you but... yes."
"Marge: Really your only crime was violating US law."
You just don't get those expected zingers anymore. Still a good show, but it went WAY downhill after the 10th season!
I just noticed something. The Simpson's actually predicted their decline in quality and former fans no longer standing the show. It was in a Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer got a monkey's paw and one of the wishes was the Simpson family being rich and famous. They got rich alright, but their fame quickly turned to infamy when their overselling out annoyed all of the townsfolk to the point where one Springfield citizen later claimed "I wish they were dead" after the town was enslaved by Kang and Kodos.

You can say the earlier seasons are objectively better which they are but I also remember enjoying the Simpsons most of all as a kid back in the 90s so of course those will be the ones I think the most highly of. Nothing can ever live up to how good it was to you as a kid and it was a staple in my house for a long time, I haven't watched the Simpsons in a long time and I do kind of miss it for nostalgic reasons but the new episodes don't hold my interest. It would be more trying to recapture a time and place in my life, so whatever they do likely isn't going to be objectively better. There is a just a creative limit with certain characters and settings, Matt Groening is a talented guy he was able to spinoff and do another good animated show Futurama which ran its course too.
This adult animated sitcom is not my taste. Pathetic taste, if you ask me. It doesn't hold a candle to the 1972-1973 Hanna-Barbera animated adult sitcom Wait 'Till Your Father Gets Home, which was born out of an animated story on Love American Style, titled Love And The Old-Fashioned Father. The perfect theme music for The Simpsons would be the song track from the Punk Rock band Ramones, from their 1977 Sire Records album Rocket To Russia, titled We're A Happy Family:
WE'RE A HAPPY FAMILY
We're a happy family.
We're a happy family.
We're a happy family.
Me, Mom and Daddy!
Sitting here in Queens,
Eating refried beans.
We're in all the magazines,
Gulping down Thorazines.
We ain't got no friends.
Our troubles never end.
No Christmas cards to send.
Daddy likes men. (Probably wouldn't be far from the truth with Homer Simpson, despite his being married to Marge.)
Daddy's telling lies,
Baby's eating flies!
Mommy's on pills,
Baby's got the chills!
I'm friends with the President,
I'm friends with the Pope.
We're all making a fortune
Selling Daddy's dope! (The dope, in this case, being the tie-in merchandise for the series.)
Sitting here in Queens,
Eating refried beans.
We're in all the magazines.
Gulping down Thorazines.
We ain't got no friends.
Our troubles never end.
No Christmas cards to send.
Daddy likes men!

Season 17 is the final DVD box set being issued, due to the series being available on streaming video (www.simpsonsworld.com).
But seasons 26 and 27 have been very good.
