Anyone here a fan of anime? Or a collector?

^_^ If yes feel free to ramble with me about series! Which are your favorite series'?

A few of my favorite series are:

Serial Experiments Lain, .Hack//SIGN, Descendants of Darkness, Fushigi Yugi, Ayashi no Ceres, X, Hikaru no Go, Fake, Gravitation, Fruits Basket, Trigun, Scrapped Princess, Vampire Princess Miyu, Haunted Junction, Eatman '98, Angel Sanctuary, Earthian, Please Save My Earth, Nightwalker, Gestalt, Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Slayers, Blue Submarine No. 6, Mirage of Blaze... and that's just a fraction of the list because to keep going on would take up even more space.. So, lets get some anime chatter going people!! !

Well, I like Miyazaki's movies (so much better than Disney tripe). I saw some of the El-Hazard series, which I liked, but I don't want to pay $100 to get the complete set and I can't find it as a rental anywhere in my area.

Just out of curiosity, how much did it cost to get all those movies you listed?

^_^ Yes! Miyazaki's works are wonderful and so classic! (And I must agree that they are FAR better than the tripe disney pushes out en masse). It makes me mad too, because Disney technically even STOLE one of the concepts of the well known manga/anime artist Osamu Tezuka. The lion king was just basically a mega rip off on Tezuka's "Kimba the white lion." (*gets off of my anti-disney soapbox*).

El Hazard is awesome! That's another of the series' I have. It is pretty expensive and hard to find places with rentals. To get all the movies I've listed plus everything else in my collection I've over many years spent.. Probably thousands of dollars. I've never calculated the exact cost since sometimes I buy series' by volume at roughly $30 a pop, or dvd sets anywhere from 75-200 bucks. Probably the most expensive DVD set was getting both sets of Fushigi Yugi since FY is 50 some episodes long. Of couse this has been over the progress of many years, I've been collecting anime since I was in the second grade and that's where all my allowance at that time went. But I'd estimate over the years I've spent easily over three thousand dollars. The best place to get series cheap though (if you don't mind subtitles) is to buy vcd collections on ebay that people in hong kong are selling. For example I got all of the X series for... Maybe thirty or fourty dollars? The only thing is sometimes the quality of the subtitles will be poor depending on who did them, like the dvd's I've gotten for $10 on ebay had subtitles I can only read on my comp because they were placed too low to see on a tv screen. That and occasionally you get weird translations. Like I was watching my copy of the .Hack//SIGN series and they wrote Bacon Lagoon Tomato sandwich.. Which was supposed to be Lettuce but for some reason they translated it as Lagoon. So that's the only other downside of vcd's because the subtitling can be really weird sometimes. I'm used to it though and it is better that spending the price to get the collections dubbed in english.

That doesn't matter, Assassin. The more anime threads, the better :) .

My favorites currently include:

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Serial Experiments Lain
Haibane Renmei
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Miyazaki's films

I've seen a lot of other stuff and liked it, too, too many to list right now. Those above are the ones that stood out the most (and in some cases are/were obsessions). Eva (particularly Ayanami Rei) is the current one.

Has anyone ever heard of "Bush Baby-little angel of the great plains"? It was a favorite anime show of mine when I was young, but there's precious little information about it anymore :?

I like some of the really good, sophisticated Anime films , like Akira, Spirited Away, and Perfect Blue. The mad kid's cartoons like Pokemon are pretty cool too!
