Please don't lynch me, because I get it that Star Wars: The Awakening Force is opening tommorow, and I've heard it for the last 4,000,000,000 times. I know that George Lucas is a highly talented film-maker and Star Wars is a highly successful chain. I just think it is overrated and it is what everyone at school talks about these days. Even Facebook has an option to put a lightsaber in your admin picture. One of my good friends even stood in line for 5 hours to get a ticket for tommorow's showing. He even wore a darth vader mask and brought a lightsaber to school today: I am suspicious he has Asperger's because that is one of the things is all he ever cares about.

So, am I the only one that thinks it is somewhat overrated?

You can make threats to hurt me if you want. I don't care.

I prefer Star Trek. Star Trek before the latest Abrams movies.

I'm not tired of it, people are welcome to like whatever they like. It was no different when harry potter movies came out. I'm not the biggest star wars geek around, but I just let people enjoy it.

I'll say this though, when nerd fandom flips out if you tell them you're not into their fandom.. I think it's a bit ridiculous. I think it's even more ridiculous when someone gets elitist about it. Either way, I'm happy for people for having a hobby.

I'm not, but what I'm actually tired about is the "OMG NO SPOILERS PLZ". I went to the "Pre-Premiere" in my country at midnight and after I told my co-workers, two of them (two SW fans), kept telling me "NO SPOILERS" every time I wanted to consult work-related things with them.

To the OP -
Yes, yes, I think you pretty much are. I absolutely love Star Wars, despite the series' obvious flaws. This movie franchise bridges generations in a way no other can. I can appreciate this saga with my ten year old daughter, despite the years between us.

I easily get sick of hype for anything. It doesn't help if it's something I care about (unlike Star Wars, which I haven't cared about since I was a teenager); if anything, that's even worse because it makes me quickly get sick of something I like. For example, as much as I liked Mad Max: Fury Road, I won't be watching it again any time soon, because all the OMG BEST MOVIE EVER hype made me sick of everything Max-related. I wish that fans would realize they're killing what they love by smothering it to death.

On the other hand, overly positive hype is more tolerable than the opposite. Even though I care much more about Star Trek than Star Wars, I think I'd rather hang around Star Wars fans who really love their franchise, rather than my fellow Trekkies, who seem to pride themselves on hating everything the franchise gives them.

Someone posted this on YouTube(2 days ago) and well, I did find it a tad daft/funny but sooo old. Still, Let the force be with you this xmas... at least that's what it reminded me of.

Not a sci- fi Star Wars fan as such.. I used to watch star trek the next generation as a child though. I was sad to hear when the real Spock died. Leonard Nimroy. He was great in the first one of the film trilogies.
William Shatner as C.Kirk and Lt com Dr Mckoy, _Leonard McCoy were some of my fave actors from the re runs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Into_Darkness This is the latest to the sequel of Star Trek and this one I will watch- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_Beyond 50 years is a long time.

One intro I remember going was..

"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before."

I don't get the dressing up thing by I don't want to judge as long as it's not disruptive like a lot of people can be at the movies anymore.
I did enjoy the movie and I fixed a lot of the wire-fu issues from the prequels (pretty sure you could edit the 3 into 1 tolerable movie)
I just ignored the hype and figured I'd either like it as a movie standing on its own merits or not.

Haha, this was before I actually saw it. I loved the movie, and my original post was misleading. I just never got into Star Wars at an early age.
