Is it wrong that I enjoy the Transformers Movies?

OK I was just writing an article about why I like the TF movies but then it just got deleted by accident so I'm gonna make this short. I know these movies are bad, I have nothing against the fact that people think they're bad even the critics, in fact I would almost say more power to them, but I enjoy watching them non the less and I don't want people to think I'm some kind of loser or stupid person for liking them because keep in mind I do think they are bad movies but I enjoy them for there stupidity in some areas and of course the action. While there are a lot of better movies with plot and character development, sometimes I just feel like watching bad movies that don't require brain power and are just enjoyable, even if I have to pay money, case in point the TF movies. If you disagree with me then that's OK I guess but please don't think of me as some kind of dumbass and please respect my opinion as I will respect yours.

Sometimes, we need some "brain candy" and to do something completely mindless but enjoyable to relax. The Transformers movies are pretty fun, IMO.

I loved the first 2, I really don't see the problems others do with them. The 3rd, even with all it's fan service... was a steaming pile of crap. Sure, it was good to see Laserbeak (who isn't supposed to talk!) and more Soundwave. Frank Welker doing the voice for Soundwave, just like in the original series (along with Megatron and a lot of others) was cool but they didn't run it through a vocoder to give him Soundwave's unique sound, so he just ended up sounding like Dr Claw.

Transformers is not just entertainment. It's racist, sexist, jingoistic propaganda. "Turning your brain off" as you say, just allows this insidious garbage to manipulate you.

Watching Transformers movies is like eating s**t, when you are standing next to a buffet of tasty food. There are thousands of action/ sci fi masterpieces out there. Why not watch some of them instead of paying for s**t, which only makes it likely that more s**t will be made?

I was about to tell you that, chances are, nobody will tell you you're wrong for liking to watch certain movies. Then Stannis posted just about exactly that. Go figure.

People dislike plenty of movies I'm a fan of. Often without ever watching the movies themselves. So I'm not in the business of judging what others like. Personally I prefer the first two Transformers over 3 and 4. But that's not to say I hated those. Also what didn't appeal to me in 3 and 4 could be great to someone else. I'm glad that some people love movies even when I don't. It'd be nice if all art got appreciated by someone.

No, tb86, there's no problem in loving the Transformers movies. Look at my musical tastes: I habitually listen to light pop music, I think 'Problem' by Ariana Grande is delightful, and I fill burned CDs with pop and urban music. Justin Timberlake has a special place on there. A lot of WP members would tell me that I have terrible taste in music, although I'll also occasionally listen to Deep Purple or Living Colour.

As for films, I mix it up. I've seen the big three superhero movies that have been released this spring, I enjoyed the heck out of all three of them including Amazing Spider-Man 2. But I also go see movies with a bit more substance; I saw a Thomas Vinterberg film, I saw No with Gael Garcia Bernal, I went to an Asian film festival to catch a couple of well-put-together Indonesian movies. So I try to keep it balanced. But I love me my caped crusaders and masked avengers, and nobody can take that away from me because I own it.

I enjoy the Transformers movies for what they are, and when I went to see Age of Extinction, I expected only the same things I expect from a Michael Bay movie and I got it. Can't be disappointed if you go to a movie knowing there'll be explosions and robots fighting.

Wellll, Beast Wars had explosions and robots fighting, but it also had a lot of heart! I personally thought it wasn't the most sophisticated animated series out there in terms of plotting and scripting, but it had episodes like the one where Tigatron had to teach the other Maximals to deal with their bestial sides, the episode where Silverbolt and Rampage strike up a friendship with a childlike Transformer, the ones in which Dinobot is trying to secure the Golden Disks, etc. etc. It was always about more than just transforming alien robots punching each other out, even though that's the meat of the franchise.

Even the original 80s cartoon featured a couple of great character-driven episodes, and that was a Saturday morning cartoon that operated on a basic 'problem-of-the-week' formula.

It's only wrong if you want people to think you're too hip to just kick back and watch an action flick.

The way I figure it, there is going to be three more of them. They have been making money with TWO Billion Dollar Box Office hits.

Everybody has different tastes in regards to film.
