Osomatsu-san?

You know, I love Osomatsu-san so much, but, here's something I'd like to know:
What is behind the popularity of the 2015 revival of the anime Osomatsu-san, made in honor of Fujio Akatsuka (the creator)'s 80th birthday (and itself a revival of two series made in 1966 and 1988 named Osomatsu-kun)? I just want to know why it's so popular, is all. That, and I notice that its art style is similar to that of Doraemon's.

Has anybody on WP seen this anime, I might add?

I love Osomatsu-san, absolutely hilarious and quite flexible in what it can be. It has also garnered a bit of a story with it release, I don't have a really indepth knowledge of it, but I know a bit. The first episode totally blew audiences away, it grabbed something so out of date and threw it in the faces of the audiences that it is so, before doing a really on point parody of what would make an anime popular, possibly so on point that it got in trouble. The creators had to remove their first episode because it actually broke some copyright law, all the cameo parodies they pulled out made them have to pull the episode. Now that might be considered a disaster, but it hooked audiences and really the first episode has them apologise for how it did things here, and will now do better. It set itself up in showing the audience exactly how aware it is, and how much it might play against current trends to actually bring something new.

To say how well made it is, you have to mention the presentation. All the Matsuno siblings are done by some pretty popular male voice actors, which you should not underestimate the effect of. Despite it initial joke, the series uses an updated form of their old style that says it won't feel pressured to meet the so called standards of modern anime. Even with the brother being identical sextuplets, the show has done a great job that after a while of not being able to tell them apart, you certainly become able to do so with their varied personalities, and some appearance differences, actually good when you watch the recap episode now knowing the differences. The show can be funny, very funny, but it also knows how to be unexpected and pull surprises at the audience, even emotional stuff, at times it might come across a bit random, but I think there is always a logic working. Except Jyushimatsu, he is awesome for how unexpected he can be.

As you said, the show has been popular. From a person in Japan who is on the anime forum I visited, they mention that the twitter account is followed quite a bit. It was only supposed to go for 12 episodes, but got extended to a second cour, doubling the amount of episode, and I really would not be surprised if more was heard. I have heard the original series kind of described as Japan's Flintstones, and essentially making Osomatsu-san as if the Flintstones made a return 50 years later, and become on of the most talked about cartoons.

Also, need to finish off on favourite Matsuno, my favourite being Karamatsu, while my favourite character in the show would be the vicious Totoko. I wrote way too much.
