Saturday at the Movies: The Story of Luke (2012)
Every Saturday night on WrongPlanet.net, a discussion will ensue about a selected autism-related film. Please, take care to avoid spoilers (or, at least, flag them) to prevent potential viewers from learning too much about the story in advance of their viewing. Tonight’s selected film is:
The Story of Luke (95 minutes), a 2012 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Alonso Mayo. It is Mayo’s first feature-length film and tells the story of Luke, a young man with autism who embarks on a quest for a job and a girlfriend. It stars Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Kristin Bauer. The DVD version of the film was released in 2013. Scenes from the film are available for viewing on YouTube under the search term The Story of Luke.
Sheltered by his grandparents, Luke, a young man with autism, is thrust into a world that doesn’t expect anything from him. But Luke is on a quest for a job and true love. And he isn’t taking no for an answer. More a comedy than a romance story, the film is funny with poignant moments particularly with co-star Seth Green (Family Guy) who plays an autistic and angry co-worker who shares some of his reasons for choosing a solitary life in the sound-proofed basement office where he is the IT director for his father’s business.
If you have viewed this film, what are your opinions about it?

I didn't dislike The Story of Luke. I just found it a little boring and not at all funny. I didn't like Seth Green's character; he was never really funny. But I liked the lead actor; Pucci, who was also in Spring (2014), is pretty good. It was OK as a coming of age drama (minus the comedy), I guess. Somewhat charming.
I give it 3 Aspergers out of 5.
BTW, I thought you might have canceled this discussion series since you didn't post one last week. I'm glad that isn't so.
