This is gonna rock! Keith Urban is a pimp! Those aliens look cool! Some of them look like Jem Hadar (but probably aren't). John Cho is a boss!

I might the only WP member who liked Star Trek Into Darkness and this could easily be the best Star Trek movie in the reboot series, possibly better than The Search For Spock.

I loved it, and so did most people. The people who hated it just speak up more often, and more loudly and obnoxiously. Hardcore Trekkies can be some of the most deeply unpleasant fans to interact with.

Very much looking forward to Beyond, more so than the overhyped The Force Awakens, though I hope the next trailer is less loud and action-oriented, and gives us a better sense of Idris Elba's villain.

I loved Darkness! Beyond looks awesome indeed.

^^^ Yeah, I thought Into Darkness was pretty good too (better than the first one).

I don't know what to think about this one yet. I'm sure I'll go see it.

...and the ticket sales / box office totals so far were worse than the previous one.

Maybe it's time to bring back Roddenberry's original idea of an optimistic, post-capitalism utopia instead of taking all the prior shows and throwing them in a blender along with a big scoop of CGI explosions? Also, do they have to destroy the Enterprise with each new installment? The ship was an icon, part of what people loved about the first two series. It symbolized "home" for the crew.

It was never supposed to be about war when GR was alive. It was about peace and the acceptance of people so unlike us that they didn't even share our DNA or sometimes even our metabolism. I fear much of that optimism has been forgotten as of late in the franchise.

Now then, I need to go yell at those damn kids running across my lawn again...

It was an okay movie, but it was an abomination on every practical and scientific view one could imagine. It's as if the writers didn't give a flip about physics, Trek history (remember that the "divergence" happens when Spock goes into the past). So, if we're not talking an utterly different "parallel reality," why ANYTHING in the new Trek tracks with the old makes no sense at all.

I was surprised by how much likeable humor there was in Star Trek Beyond.
