I thought it was generally understood that everyone falling over when the ship gets hit was due to the gravity system taking a beating.
And the gravity went off completely on the Klingon ship in Star Trek VI.
Ever seen The 'burbs?
Here are a couple I came up with:
- It is always possible to immediately tell the difference between a car that's following you and a car that is merely going the same way.
- On any planet with more than one moon, all the moons will be in the same part of the sky and in the same phase. If there are three moons, they will be neatly arranged in a triangle.

Nice. Some additional ones:
If you become a serial killer, you will develop super powers. These include ninja-like stealth, short-range teleportation and the ability to telepathically spy on the police and your victims in order to perfectly anticipate their movements. Also, you will develop a secondary heart that will kick in twenty seconds after you have apparently died, and somebody is gingerly checking your prone body.
Any computer system you need to hack into will let you know when you have succeeded, by flashing ACCESS GRANTED in big red letters.
Families that have more than one living parent are very rare indeed (the Disney rule).
An essential part of any attempt to recusitate someone whose heart has stopped is to hysterically shout "Don't you give up!" or "Don't you leave me!".
Body armour will protect you against any attack, no matter how powerful--but only if your opponent is unaware that you are wearing it.
On the other hand, heavy and obvious armour is a waste of metal, as it won't make attacks any less effective (the Lord of the Rings rule).
Mobile phones are more likely to run out of power or suffer from poor reception, the more important the information is that they're conveying. If they're warning someone about a danger that's about to hit them any second now, the chance approaches 100% (the 24 rule)
