Ok, a question for you savant people.
I remember an episode of Freaks and Geeks wheresome's dad, show someone a record to demonstrate how drums should played.
I want to know which episode. What I'm really after is the artist(s) that I know was mentioned, and possibly which song it was. (Don't remember if it was mentioned, otherwise I could just prepare a clip and ask for an id of the song)

I know this is a weird question, but I'm wondering. I'm downloading the series, so even if no one comes up with the answer, I'll know it in time. But if you remember any details, please answer.

I've never seen the show, but my brother has so I asked him, and then did some googling with what he told me. It's the episode "Smooching and Mooching" (I think - not 100% certain, but close) and the drummer Nick's listening to is Neil Peart of Rush, and the drummer Harold (the father) plays for him is the great jazz drummer Buddy Rich (who is indeed a vastly superior musician than that annoyingly frenetic busybody Peart). It's even mention in Wiki's article on Rich:

Ok, according to Wiki, the song Harold plays is "The Monster" by Gene Krupa (also a legendary jazz drummer) and Buddy Rich, off of the album Krupa and Rich.

Here's the Wiki article for that episode: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smooching_ ... episode%29

You're welcome!

BTW, being a jazz aficionado myself, I can attest that both Krupa and Rich are phenomenal drummers...but they were only the vanguard for the greatest drummer ever: Max Roach. But apparently, Harold was a big band/swing fan, so hey. It's cool.

Krupa and Rich are monsters...there were some cool clips of them on Youtube last time I checked.

EDIT: Here is a Buddy Rich Solo; check out the control on the hi-hat about a minute and a half in: insane.
