I was always one for the local kid shows. Living in South Central PA, we could also pull stations from Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Every Saturday, it was Slapstick Theater, aka Percy Platypus and Friends on WGAL-TV, with Maryjane Landis as host and Jim Freed operating the puppets (Percy Platypus, Cousin Kiwi, and Mr. Rat). The show ran from 1952 to 1972. The hostess, Maryjane Landis was a TV broadcast pioneer, holding several positions at the station until she retired in 1999. Sadly, she died shortly before Christmas 2015.
As for Philadelphia, WFIL-TV (now WPVI-TV) had the best kids shows, namely Sally Starr and Chief Halftown (and he actually was a Seneca chief), as well as the Rev. W. Carter Mebrier, AKA Capt. Noah. I don't recall any kid shows on KYW-TV, except Mike Douglas's talk show. WCAU-TV had Cartoon Corners with Gene London. WPHL-TV had Wee Willie Webber.
Baltimore also had plenty of good kid shows. The best ones were on WMAR-TV, and starred Stu Kerr, initially as Bozo the Clown, then as Perfessor Kool, with his fun Skool. WBAL had Lary Lewman as Pete the Pirate and Rhea Feiken (Now of Maryland Public Television) who hosted Miss Rhea and Sunshine, and did the weather with the dragon puppet, J.P. (Who's signature sign off was Good Night Rolf (referring to WBAL-TV's longtime news anchor, Rolf Hertzgaard.). WJZ-TV had Royal Parker, who
Was P.W. Doodle (which he also played at WBAL-TV). There was also George A Lewis, AKA Capt. Chesapeake on WBFF-TV (and his show was quite cheesy in production values.)
