Anyone on here still watch Lost?
I'm completely obsessed ATM.
Anyone got any interesting theories?
Here's my current Mini-theory;
[spoiler]This is just a mini theory but here we go... I think that Jacob could be the spirit of Ben's father.
After the Hostiles attacked the Dharma base that took and buried all of the bodies but when they asked Ben if he wanted his father removed he declined.
I think that the Island rejects life ending on the island and life beginning- thus explaining why women cannot give birth safely. If a body isn't buried then it is instilled with unreal power which cannot be controlled.
This is further implied by the fact that everyone who has died on the island has been buried/had a funeral except Ben's father and that is possibly why the others have such a ceremony/funeral for their dead. So as not to create another Jacob.
Jacob asks Locke to 'Help Him' because his spirit has been trapped on the island unnaturally.
Finally I have a suggestion to put forth. The black smoke may be the embodiment of further spirits controlled by Jacob. After Jacob was created there was not enough power in the island to create another and the smoke is all of the spirits compiled.
The Whispers sometimes heard on the island could be spirits unbound by the island. People who had bad lives or who had sinned would become part of the black smoke which seeks out people and reads their minds. The black smoke needs more power to survive and it would gain this through more evil spirits. It reads people's minds to see if they are evil and if so attempts to kill them so it can take their soul.
If they are not evil then, if they have a purpose (e.g. Libby wanting to say something to hurley) they can only communicate through whispers.
When whatshername saw Walt in season 2 we know he didn't die, but part of him did. He lost his innocence on the island (a la Lord of the Flies) and that's what died on the island as he passed through puberty and that was the ghostly part of Walt which was left behind.

future, who that girl with the global phone,
and what is up with Penny.

I think the British Parachutist woman is working for either Penny Widmore (To Find Desmond), Charles Widmore (To Prevent Penny From Finding Desmond) or Future Jack (for reasons unknown).
