I thought I'd say that bringing British TV personalities here is both a good and a bad thing. My theory as to why follows.

Circa 1958, a well-known British TV host appeared on American TV to promote a variety TV show he was hosting. This person is none other than current "Countdown" host Des O'Connor. He appeared on our version of "Concentration" hosted by a man by the name of Hugh Downs. He is a newsman that is about 85 years old and is probably in retirement right now. Not many people here know who Des is unless they have seen clips of "Countdown" online.

Then, Phil Gurin, an American TV producer, decided to bring "The Weakest Link" to America in primetime and make the payoff a $1,000,000 prize. Also, he decided to bring Anne Robinson here because he thought he couldn't have done anything better. I certainly agree with him. I don't think anyone hosts that show better than she does.

Then, in 2005, "Supernanny" with Jo Frost premiered on American television. I happen to think that Jo Frost is very nice, very smart and she always knows what she does. It takes a lot of courage to deal with kids who throw temper tantrums as major as they are. I commend her for dealing with them.

In June of 2005, one of the biggest failures in American TV aired. "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was Americanized. Yes, we brought Vernon Kay here to host it. He is now hosting "Family Fortunes" of course.

In 2006, we brought a very special person here to be the first host of the first show of the cell phone quiz show here in America. Her name is Mel Peachey. She is extremely happy-go-lucky, friendly and always willing to make every show that she hosts a lot of fun. I was shocked when I heard that none of you had ever heard of her, as she is on the Sky Network there and everyone gets that channel. Now, I hear that the cell phone quiz show craze is in serious jeopardy there because the media does not like the fact that the only purpose of those shows being on is because people want to make a lot of money. Mel is hosting "quiznation" on the Sky Network. Also, just so you all know, the cell phone quiz show craze is still going strong here. It's much more popular here than it is in England.

Finally, I have great news for all of you who like down-to-earth British ladies. Layla Kayleigh has been named host of the "World Poker Tour" when it comes back on for another season next year. She is another young lady from London. I happen to like her because she is very down-to-earth and professional.

In general, do you all think that bringing British TV personalities to America is a good idea?

The Brits should send people here, and we send people to the UK and the USA. Look at Steve Irwin. He was extremely popular in the US....

So, in other words, I shouldn't be surprised that you know who Anne Robinson is.

Only because of Doctor Who. However, I'd heard of Davinia McCall beforehand because I borrowed from a library a book on the first UK series of Big Brother.

Obviously you know more about game show hosts than me.
But when Weakest Link first started, it was a running joke at our poker club whenever someone lost all their chips.
"You are the weakest link....."
And the winner of that show used to win like £158 or so.

Now they play for $1,000,000.
Is that a good thing or bad thing :? i dont know.

I assume you are familiar with 15-1 and countdown.

what you on about ?
All im saying is that we used to take the mick when it first started.
People used to win that show and leave with less than £100.
It was a laughing stock, of course no-one knew that a year later they would be playing for $1000000.
I don't mean laughing stock in a bad way, just source of amusement, you know.

Anyway, did you hear about 'Going For Gold' ?
Now. that was a laughing stock

Losers on "The Weakest Link" leave with nothing!

Yes, I know about "Going For Gold." Henry Kelly is a great guy!

Even though "The Weakest Link" is not one of my favorite game show I do have to admit that Anne Robinson is very good on it. I like her wit and how she handles the contestants.

Yes, I liked Mel Peachey. She was very good on Playmania. I'm sure lots of Playmania fans here in the states miss her. She was pretty good looking too.

In general, do you all think that bringing British TV personalities to America is a good idea?

In general, I do.

Anne Robinson is actually a very lovely person in real life!

She is a big fan of Elvis Presley. She admitted that when she interviewed a US Weakest Link contestant who was a comedian by the name of Woogie Ham. Unfortunately, a few years ago he passed away of a cardiac arrest. He was only in his 40's!

Just so you all know, Mel Peachey will have to find something else to do because "quiznation" in England has been canceled.

I never knew that Anne was a big fan of Elvis Presley, this is interesting. That's a shame that guy in his 40's died of a heart attack.

Quiznation in England has been cancelled!! wow! Maybe Mel might end up coming back to the states to do Quiznation here.

I don't think so!

They've really changed "quiznation" here lately. They seem to have their wires crossed as far as paces for certain games are concerned.

By the way, I was just in the process of writing you about me personally. I wrote something very nice recently. Would you like to see what I wrote? If so, let me know!
