Hi all. Has anyone else here seen Primer? It's widely considered to be the most confusing movie ever made. The first time I watched the film, I thought it was just nonsense ... but then I watched this other video explaining it.

Watch the film here.

... and then watch this video explaining the film's plot.

How much did you understand before you watched the explanation?

Confession: I didn't get it at all until I watched the explanation. I understood the first part of the film in which the time machine was being built, but I was totally lost for the rest of the movie.

That being said, I'm still glad that I saw the movie because I'm sick of seeing Hollywood movies in which everything is artlessly spoon-fed to a general audience, and nobody's intelligence is challenged. I ultimately failed the challenge that Primer put me to, but I'm glad I was challenged at all.

I was confused because I thought some of the audio was really terrible like they didn't set up the microphones properly in the production. I had a hard time following some of the dialogue.

The whole approach to it was fascinating though and it was a strange situation where I didn't mind being a little lost as even the main characters were clearly getting into confusing situations.

I would consider watching it again maybe with Closed Captioning on for me. I have since learned my hearing is messed up actually.

I watched it a long time ago, so can't remember if I "got it" before the end. It was a bit of a slog getting through it though - probably because of the direction or production. It certainly had the feel of an independent film.

But yes, it was an interesting film. I think I'd put it in my category of: I'm glad I watched it, but once is enough. Like The Road.
