After seeing the Sonic movie trailer a while back, I've been piecing together what the plot might be when the film comes out.
Aside from some buddy cop duo tropes, here's what I got so far.
Sonic is an insanely fast hedgehog who proves to be a nuisance to the entire world hence the power outage caused by his speed burst. The government brings out G.U.N. to capture him. When G.U.N.'s efforts are fruitless, they hire the most notorious mad scientist ever known, Dr. Eggman. They're very reluctant to hire him because he can be very crazy at times. Dr. Eggman sends robots to pursue Sonic and they get destroyed one by one. The more elusive Sonic becomes, the more Eggman becomes obsessed. We learn Sonic's powers come from being electrically charged (apparently, a hedgehog naturally born to run fast doesn't cut it.) and his electrically charged quills can pierce metal (that ought to explain how Sonic can destroy Eggman's machines). Eggman's robots engage Sonic in a battle and chase around the world. The government becomes concerned that Eggman might be going too far as his methods are causing destruction and public harm. Finally, Eggman has had enough and will catch Sonic at all costs even if it means destroying an entire city. Sonic engages Eggman in a final battle resulting in Eggman's defeat. The government gives Sonic a full pardon. Eggman emerges from the wreckage of his machine in the middle of nowhere. His hair is gone and his moustache is grown out. He screams in anger and then he notices a glowing colored gem on the ground nearby and he picks it up. He feels power radiating from the gem and he begins to laugh maniacally.
The credits roll and Gangsta's Paradise plays.
