Victory.
There are big issues with his win, to do with the level of competition he had to face and the tournament format, but he still won. This post from Reddit will help me explain:

Alola League does count but it's less satisfaction because
It's first mistake is that it let everyone into the league even team rocket this may not seem like much but it shows that the is less quality of trainers in this league. Badges serve as a way to weed out weaker trainers, trainers who have only 1 Pokemon and have not trained a full team. Like Lilly and team rocket. A long 8 badge region force's trainers to train months on end to become ready for the league
Preliminary was a battle royal not a tournament type. This means it's not based on skill just survivability and luck. Imagine if I just used dig and stayed underground for the battle royal.
Most of the league tournament stages is a 1 on 1 rather than a 3 on 3. A 1 on 1 just means anyone could win just as long as I put up the correct typing purely on luck. A 3 on 3 means the is some coverage I have created.
No 6 on 6 for later tournament match. If we are talking about the semi finals then this always needs to be a 6 on 6 because it shows how well a champion can make a solid team with the greatest coverage. A 3 on 3 and 2 on 2 isn't what a League finals should be that's why.
It's less satisfy because of this.
Ash ends up traveling to a different region and catching new pokemon to take on that region's league and normally has to defeat the region's gym leaders to qualify. The Alola region in story was holding it's first league, so there was none of this structure in place. No Elite Four and no Champion for Ash to earn the right to fight either, he goes straight into being the Alola Champion. It's all just really anticlimactic. I only paid attention for the league, but I've also seen a lot of talk about Ash's team being nowhere near as strong as previous teams that have failed before, so it's not even as if he's reached the highest level yet of his own ability, he just won because of the low level of competition and not even in 6 on 6, which he's always fought at in the latter stages of the other leagues.
