My bluray player has been collecting dust and while they still sell bluray movies and DVDs at walmart I have not bought myself a new movie in a long time. I hardly even watch my bluray movies now, I noticed that some are actually of a poorer visual quality than when I watch the same movie through streaming. I mostly just stream on my Roku device.

Should I retire my movies to my Mom's TV shelf where all our old movies that we never watch anymore go to die? I mean I can't exactly get rid of them or else my Mom will get mad...

It sounds like you answered your own question...

I still buy Blu ray/4k if the edition is nice. These things have a life span of what...100 years?

I go back to the days when 8-track tapes were the new, hip thing....

Me too. I wish I had kept all the 8-track tapes I had. Wonder if they're worth anything now?

I don't believe 8-tracks are worth much. What are you going to play them on?

Maybe the 8-track players are....I don't believe, even in the 8-track Era, that they were very common. I never knew anybody with one.

For the most part, it seems as if it went from "records" to cassette tapes to VHS to DVDs, etc.

To call a "record" a "vinyl" is something that's very recent.....like we never called a "record player" a "turntable."

Somehow I doubt DVDs and Blurays will ever be as collectible as record players...

I need to get with the times I guess. :|

What’s after 4K?

I can barely tell HDTV from analog TV :)

Haha good point. :)

I think I might as well keep my bluray movies. At least it'll give me something to watch whenever my internet goes out once in awhile. :)

I haven't even got to Blu Ray yet. Same goes for streaming, Netflix, etc. My staples are VHS, DVD and YouTube.

I don't see anyone that uses them anymore.

I made a media centre PC, built it into a Nintendo snes case then put Plex software on it, bought a remote with a keyboard on it and viola, lazy home cinema with literally everything on it. I have thousands of movies and music, tons of HDD space.

It's hooked up to a remote controlled projector in my living room. It took me a long time to get it all together but it's so nice I'd never go back.

I have never had blue ray yet. I thought it was new? I heard they have stopped selling VHS which is a shame as I have lots of videos and our video players are still going well.

That would be 8k.

Personally, I can’t tell the difference either

Playing a viola, keyboard, and channel surfing all at the same time? Damn, you got skillz.
