As a mild-mannered and enthusiastic geek, I'm fed up with all the negativity in online fandoms. So many so-called "fans" only show their faces to complain endlessly about minor details, fight brutal flamewars against rival tribes of fans, and compare various actors and directors unfavourably to Hitler. Even when they say something nice, it has to be qualified with a vicious jab at something else.

So... here's a place to talk about the things we DO like in our favourite shows and films. Or books, comics, games, and even toylines- this just seemed the best place to put it. (Start a flamewar here, and you have officially failed basic reading comprehension. The idea is NOT to come looking for People Who Have Wrong Tastes so you can have a go at them.) I'll start-

I really like how Michelle Gomez played "Missy" in Doctor Who. The character is written as this ridiculously over-the-top murder-clown, but she pulls it off with grace and conviction. She can flip from hilarious to terrifying in an eyeblink.

I love Hollow Knight's environmental storytelling and really cool character designs! (Hollow Knight is a video game I'm into at the moment.)

I like this thread idea. And I watched the trailer for hollow knight. The atmosphere reminds me of the anime Somali and the Forest Spirit. The art is beautiful and the story is very good and relaxing. Here's a trailer.

I've been reading and re-reading "House of X / Powers of X," the 12-issue Marvel comic that relaunched the X-men in 2019. Never been that into superhero comics before, but this one is utter genius and it's got me hooked on them. It's got some depth to it. The mutants are building a new civilisation, and what we see of it manages to be both inspiring and disturbing. All the ongoing plots and relationships from the older comics have not been erased, but the writers somehow made it a good point for a noob like me to start reading from. Which is a neat trick- comic book continuity is famously impenetrable. Plus, the colour work is phenomenal.
