Middle aged men keep getting roles as love interests to women young enough to be their daughters and granddaughters. Why is that?

There's a lot of middle-aged men in TV production.

Okay. Do you have any other reasons?

There are a lot of young women looking for acting jobs.

Why is that they're getting jobs?

To fulfill the unrequited adolescent fantasies of middle-aged male actors.

So. How is that acceptable in movies?

Middle-aged men run the business; they make the decisions, their people follow suit, and the public laps it up.

So. How many years can be an age difference between them?

Okay. So, why is that someone mistakes someone else's daughter as their granddaughter?

It just so happens that younger women like middle-aged men. It's really not that unusual to see at least a 10-year age difference in couples, with the man being older.

It's not just middle-aged men liking younger women. It's a two-way street.

A man had a child who is 20+ to 30 years apart.

It was fairly common in the old days for someone to have a sibling at least 20 years older than that someone.

It was also fairly common for people to marry in their teens about 3 or more generations ago. Then to marry someone else many decades later.

President Grover Cleveland, in the 1890s. married a person whom he sponsored when he was a young adult man, and she was a baby. There wasn't really that much of a fuss raised at this.

Okay. Why is that someone mistaken someone's daughter as if they were their granddaughter?
