Rented 3 older movies from the library:

Dim Sum : a Little Bit of Love - very nice but a chick flick :) - only for sensitive guys.

Bernard & the Genie - very good but made me cry near the end when the Genie and Bernard parted ways. Lenny Henry's (Genie) comedy got me through it though. I LOVE stuff from the U.K. Sometimes I feel like packing up the family amd moving to England.

Mozart & the Whale: Nice but I felt they over-dramatized the Aspie's and Autistics as if they were mental patients. They made them look like the characters in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". But who knows? Were the characters in "One Flew Over" supposed to represent the Autistic Community? I was a bit insulted by Mozart & the Whale.

Before I make any more posts, I'd like to know what constitutes "old" in regards to film.

Well, my idea of "old" is movies that are more than 6 months old.

I'll go further than that. I watch some movies so old that in conversation I sometimes tell grandparents, "Eh, well, it was before your time." I go back BEFORE the Hayes Commission.

Such as (though this is just a short):

Okay, now someone has to mention movies made by Thomas Edison or old nickelodeon reels or something...

I will say that "old" can be somewhat subjective... Some much newer movies that I saw when I was very young or that are very dated feel older than the timeless silent comedies I love. I saw Bernard and the Genie ("Make me look like Bob Geldoff") years ago and that is a good deal older than 6 months.

Depends on what you mean by old. I've watched Metropolis (1927), and am currently trying to watch another work by Fritz Lang, Dr Mabuse, The Gambler (1922).

To be honest, I've never heard of old movies being 6 months old before :D

I guess you can break down film into a few ages: The Silent Era (till 1930's), The Golden Age (till 1950's), New Hollywood (till 1970's)and The Modern Age (till now). I get the feeling we're moving into a new age...

Anyhow, of the old movies I've watched recently that likely not many people have seen but I'd recommend-

The Big Clock http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040160/
This Gun For Hire http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035432/
My Name Is Nobody http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070215/

Last night I watched The Color Purple for the first time in about 5 years and I have to say it is one of the most underappreciated movies of all time. People consider it and Empire of the Sun to be a lull in his career, but they're 2 of his most masterful works.

PS I haven't seen Bernard & The Genie for years but I know what you mean. I loved the Lenny Henry show.
