in the movie, what does the color have to do with the movie?

I haven't seen it and when it came out when I was a kid, I thought since it was being directed by Steven Spielberg, it was a science fiction movie and the title only made me thing even more that it was a sci fi flick.

this is from wikipedia
"The title derives from a discussion between Celie and Shug about faith. Describing what God does to please people, Shug says, "I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it." After Celie asks what God does in response to this obliviousness, Shug replies that he creates something else people will see, because God just wants to be loved. The discussion leads to the rekindling of Celie's spirituality, despite years of abuse and neglect."

You're lucky you missed that feminist propaganda movie.

Since Spielberg feels so guilty about being male that he has to glorify humanity's cruel enemies, he ought to be castrated.

I ain't gonna do it myself, but if somebody else does, I hope I'm on the jury.

Did you say that wasn't proper? Did you march out on the track?
You were quiet, just like mice. And now you say that we're not nice.
Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Also at the end of the movie, when Celie is reunited with her children, they are standing in a field wearing the color Purple.

Sorry you feel that way and don't understand what a lot of women have gone or go through. - this movie is exceptional and is based on a book by the same name - Spielberg kept the movie very true to the book.

 have you ever thought that some people may actually go through things like that? and it's not about feminism, it's just about their experience. if you go into a movie thinking "male vs female" then that's surely what youll find.

I never saw the movie but I know the plot, and I always thought that was where the title came from (the bruises)

"feminist propaganda"
I never got that from the movie, I thought it had a great story.
