nintendo wii
....because playstation is such a great name, eh?
.......and playstation 3 is soooo original.
but all kidding aside, if you discount something because of it's name....that's just trite. a rose by any other name would still be a rose. call it the revolution if it really bothers you that much.
Maybe, maybe not.
At least it will be cheaper than the other systems (x-box, playstation)
As for the name I think this site says it all.

The controller's cool, but I haven't been too interested in its announced games. Red Steel's swordfighting looks fun, and Zelda could be all right, but I'm not too into the rest. Never been a big fan of Nintendo's style of games--they're great, but they're just not my thing.
I wish people would stop saying that the PS3 ripped it off, though--the motion sensitivity in its controller is much more limited (it only recognizes turning and rolling rather than full movement), isn't the main (or only major) selling point (no, that honor belongs to MGS4...hah), and plus, Microsoft and Logitech came out with motion sensitive controllers for the PC in 1999, both of which were much more similar to the PS3's controller. PS3 may be over twice as expensive as the Wii (which I believe is going to be $250, not $200), and Sony may be an unoriginal corporation with a history of ripping off its opponents, but at least get your facts straight.
Whatever, though--I think all the consoles are going to have their own strengths and weaknesses. Wii's problems will be its reliance on first party titles and its vastly inferior technology. PS3 has MGS4 (if you've seen the E3 15 minute trailer then chances are you know why this is such a huge plus--and this from someone who's never played an MGS game) and technology that looks incredible. The graphics shown in a majority of its announced titles have, IMO, put the graphics on most of the XBox 360 titles to shame. I mean, have you seen how choppy Gears of War is, one of the only games that comes close to the barely-choppy-but-much-prettier PS3 graphics? And Halo 3's graphics looked highly overrated, but then I've just never liked Halo much due to its horrible, repetitive level design and extremely overblown critical acclaim. All it did was be the first half-decent first person shooter with multiplayer on consoles, and since consoles are more popular (being more accessable, simple, and secure to play), it became the new "average gamer" media darling. Yeah, the Halo games are all right. Not particularly fun, good looking, or full of substance, but all right.
Not to say the X-Box 360 won't have some cool upcoming games. Choppiness aside, I think Gears of War looks cool. I'm also a bit excited about Dead Rising--those are some nice graphics. 99 Nights looks awesome, too. PS3's got an even better-looking line up, though: Metal Gear Solid 4, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4 (eventually), Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Eight Days (my GOD those graphics looked amazing), Lair (whatever the hell it is, it looks schweet), the untitled Naughty Dog game, Final Fantasy XIII, etc.
Anyway...
My current analysis of the 3 giants:
-Control: Wii > PS3 > X360
-Technology/Graphical Potential: PS3 > X360 > Wii
-Cool factor for announced titles: PS3 > X360 > Wii
-Pricing: Wii > X360 > PS3
-Stability (expected, based on track record): Wii > X360 > PS3
I'm not psyched for the Wii so much as psyched about seeing how the 3 console giants will fair in the tumult to come, and (more importantly) to see how their games fair.
microsoft said it best: "why waste $600 buying a ps3 when you can buy a wii and an Xbox360 with the same money?"
that's paraphrasing...but you get the point.
i really don't think that the prettyness and technology of the ps3 will make it a strong contender....if anything it'll make it a weak contender because of how much money sony will lose on each unit sold and how many units just aren't sold as result of the price.
not to mention most people don't have hi-def tv's. so to someone like me, the graphics are nice and all but i won't beable to take advantage of it anyways so i'd rather something focusing more on gameplay and trying to create a new experience.
that and i think that the wii using nintendo's back catalog combined with the sega and turbo graphix back catalogs will make it a strong contender for us older gamers who want the old school games too. i know that i, imparticular, will love this feature because i lost all my nintendo and sega games recently.
ps3 is awesome on paper and i've been hyping it up with the rest of the technogeeks but really, when it comes down to it, i think nintendo is doing what they always do....make the pack come to them. they did it with the n64 by introducing the analog stick and the rumble pack (both of which are standard now for game systems) and i could see them leading the pack again with the new gameplay technology.
i really don't see sony coming up big on anything other than buying titles out so that the other systems can't get them till later...like they did with GTA san andreas. which...is a really jerk thing to do and doesn't win my approval or make me want their systems more...just makes me despise them for trying to monopolize* the industry.
*i know the irony in talking about monopolies but talking rather favorably about microsoft....so shut-it. :p

True, but it seems to have a much stronger games lineup than either the Wii or 360, at least in my opinion. Technology and controller are secondary to what games are on the system. But, then, I've never liked Mario or Zelda games all that much--they're very high quality, I'm just not into their style. Plus, I thought Zelda actually looked kinda frustrating to control with the controller. It looks too sensitive in some ways, not sensitive enough in others. Again, the Wii's controller is the first of its kind to do this fully, despite the earlier PC motion sensitive controllers in 1999 (ones that were more limited), so it's doubtful that it'll have perfected its scheme. Even if it does, however, again, it's all about the games. Gameplay will always be more important than graphics, yes, but what about games with gameplay that requires new, highly-graphical technology? More serious games are about immersion, and realistic graphics are a component of that. The Wii won't be able to support these games, at least not unless they are heavily downgraded. The PS3 at least has the ability to run them--and games like MGS4 are sure to take advantage of this. That said, you could definately counter-act this by saying that the Wii's got a way better controller. PS3's controller can't touch it--it only recognizes turn and roll.
That price is indeed terrible, though, and is turning everyone off. I doubt I'll buy one, that's for sure, but then I'm not likely to buy a Wii or a 360 either. Again, they all have strengths and weaknesses, but IMO it all boils down to the games themselves--and PS3 looks the best to me in that regard. To those who like Nintendo's first party titles, such as Zelda and Super Smash Bros, then I'm sure the Wii won't disappoint, but for someone like me, who finds them too cute and prefer their games darker and more serious, then there's not much to offer besides Red Steel. And I'm not paying $300 bucks for one game. (Base system costs $250, plus the game, $50.) Granted, after launch there's bound to be more titles gamers like me might enjoy, but let's face it, Nintendo's always been about high quality first party titles. PlayStation's always been the one with the most games and the most variety, the most second-and-third-party titles, especially with their announcement of how, on the PS3, home-brewed games being easier than ever to make for aspiring developers.
Yeah, I don't have one either, but PC gamers have delt with their lack of technology at home for ages, considering their system's always evolving, just as console gamers have always had to buy the new consoles--which is usually cheaper. The PS3, then, has taken one of the worst weaknesses of PC Gaming and translated it into a console problem: requiring the buyer to spend a lotta money for their games. But PC gamers have delt with this for a while, and the PC has always been and continues to be one of the strongest platforms. Plus, the Wii may be cheap, but how do you know that with certain games you won't have to buy a lot of expensive, sometimes-pointless peripherals? One of the Wii controller's main points is the things that can be added to it, but this could easily become a greedy capitalist's wet dream. For many of the highest-profile games, consumers will no doubt be required to buy a new controller along WITH the game. The PS3 just has one controller, for all games, no add-ons required. Again, this is just speculation, but given the way that capitalism works, I very much doubt that this won't be the case. So after a while, the PS3's price shouldn't be a big problem. I'm more worried about the stability of the initial shipment--Sony's never been too good in that regard.
Many of these games can be found on online emulator sites, but it is still a definitive plus for the average gamer.
Good point--I do agree that the masses will be in favor of Nintendo, and I haven't been arguing against that. I always disagree with the masses...heh. As I said, though--it's all about the games. I really hope that games take advantage of the Wii control technology, but again, because it's so new and so complex, I think that many games won't get it right for a while, just as they don't get any new technology right at first.
Yeah, Sony's totally hateful. It's one of the epitome's of an evil corporation. There is no honor in any business, and there's little us lemmings can do about it as individuals. But as you said, it gets the games. And IMO, it is always about the games--that is the bottom line, why you buy the system in the first place. It's why so many were disappointed by the Xbox 360--not enough, if any, great launch titles, and despite how great "Gears of War" and "Dead Rising" look, the 360 seems to be severely lacking in regard to the games themselves. Wii's games appeal to the masses, but not to the gamers like me, who don't particularly like Nintendo's style of gaming--it'll sell the best, no doubt about that, but it will not be universally loved, as no Nintendo consoles are, because of its reliance on old and first party titles. But the PS3, which due to its price will probably sell the worst, has a really fantastic games lineup--and many of the games are exclusive (at least at this point), mind you--that will no doubt get greater as time goes on due to its intended support for "home brewed" titles. As years pass, I think that the Wii, with its vastly inferior graphical technology and probably abuse of control peripherals, will become increasingly unattractive, but there's no denying its immidiate selling power. It'll just have to come up with an unstoppable trump card of a game a few years after its release to make sure that its systems' increasingly-outdated technology doesn't wane.
I'd also like to say that I've been playing nothing but old games lately, like the Longest Journey and the Curse of Monkey Island, so it's not like I judge everything by graphical technology, but you can't deny that graphics are important. Not as important as gameplay, and worthless if games don't utilize it (waaaaay too many games look waaaaay too the same these days, and I never even found the whole "blood-drenched cyborg monster in a dark space station with neon lights" look attractive in the first place), but they definately are important--especially to the masses. I think that the Wii will start off really strong and slowly, but surely run out of gas; that the 360 will grow as its games lineup does, and will sort of be the sleeper hit; and that the PS3 will start off pretty badly but get increasingly well-regarded once everyone gets over the shock of the price and is confronted with the Wii's own economic abuse, if indeed that is the case, and as more games come out.
But I could be totally wrong. Heh.
I'm ecstatic about it! I can't wait 'til Super Mario Galaxy, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Elebits, and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz come out; I hope they make a Pikmin 3 in the future! I also can't wait for DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 comes out! I hope that they add Bibidi or Babidi as a playable character this time!

I dont really see the point in buying one since theres only a few nintendo games i like, and the good series that i liked (especially for the n64) Like Zelda and Mario are either discontinued or just arent the same anymore (Imo the gamecube zelda games were evil =[ ) personally i wont be buying any mainly cos of my lack of any spending money (notice how each generation is getting more and more expensive, WAY above of the rate of inflation?) id choose a Wii or PS3, i just cant stomach microsoft making a console, and most of the good games for 360 are already on the better control system of the PS3.e only thing that wud put me off the Wii is the control system. i dont like change, for me even the change from the n64 controller to the gamecube was hard, but i liked it eventually (n64 controller still best ever tho
) but a remote? seriously wtf?

For some reason, though I'm usually very serious, making my dark music and brooding about all sorts of weird and wonderful thoughts, I take a sick kind of delight in cutesy giant worlds I can get lost in..
Mario galaxy, zelda, and metroid are why I will get the Wii...
Then I will finish them all, and sell it..
Then continue saving for the ultimate notebook to mix music on the move
