Is that weird? Would people think I'm old fashioned for still doing that and not downloading movies from itunes? Do people who download movies still collect blu-rays even if they are good film? I mean personally I prefer to collect Blu-Rays. They have special features like commentaries and deleted scenes. Can you get those from itunes? Heck I don't think I really have a choice. I mean we do have one of those things where you can put your ipad or iphone onto a tv but it's in our living room and I can't use it all the time. I spend most times watching films in my room and I can't put them onto my tv. Unless I'm on the go I prefer to watch a movie in the comfort of my own chair.

I don't think so. It may not me as uncommon among certain age demographics, but I would hardly call it weird. I still regularly buy DVD's & Blu-Ray's. Heck, I still buy VHS, CD's, and audio cassettes. The amount of media in my collection that is downloaded makes up a very small percentage.

For me, there is something satisfying and rewarding about seeing shelves of movies or music with all the different artwork and title fonts. Like reading an actual book, feeling the disc or tape in my hands is also a feeling I enjoy, and double-clicking on a file will never beat the ritual of inserting a disc or a tape into its designated machine and letting the magic of cinema or music begin.

I like both streaming and DVDs. I have roku, which puts it on my tv. When I feel lazy, I just use the remote. I like DVDs because they belong to me and, as long as I have a DVD player and electricity, I can watch them. I worry about the future of streaming, like slow internet or being really expensive to stream.

I've never downloaded anything.

I like seeing movies on Youtube or Netflix first, but if I see a really good one, I always want it on DVD.

Not weird at all. Netflix for example lacks many classic films among its range of titles. There will always be a demand for physical products like DVDs and Blu-Rays from film fans. Even if the big Hollywood studios begin to phase out their physical releases, there's plenty of small specialist labels that will contain to release titles on these formats for a good while yet.

I don't know anyone who streams. Waste of money. Stupid.

I think the weird thing is that you buy em in the 1st place instead of pirate them like DL em on a torrent site or find other ways to DL or watch em that are unapproved & illegal. Why pay for a DVD when you could pirate it for free & then burn it on DVD. It's alot cheaper

Because that is stealing from the people who have spent many years studying and perfecting their craft, worked hard to put movies, TV shows, and other works together, and devalues them by basically saying "I don't think what you do for a living is worth me paying you for".

The only time I pirate something is if it's the only way to get it. A lot of anime can only be pirated. If you can get it then your pirating it makes me sick. Horrible.

I'm with you guys, I love all the special features and being able to watch DVDs basically anywhere I want to, without having to suffer with low quality and buffering during peak Internet hours.

I do collect BluRays as well, but only if they're cheap, or if it's something I rewatch regularly, or something that's visually stunning. Or in certain cases, like the original TMNT, where the DVD release looks awful >_<

But heck, I still buy VHSes sometimes, because they're super dirt cheap at thrifts, and some movies I really don't care (especially if I've never seen it), and some films on VHS never made it to DVD, or they were ruined in the process (*cough* *cough* Star Wars).

One thing I do really like about streaming though, is that I don't usually binge watch TV shows, so it's nice to be able to come back to a show later, and the streaming services usually do a decent job of remembering where you left off.

Sometimes I wish there was an option though to make a list of your favorite shows, maybe syndicated stuff, and just have it randomly show you episodes, like on a real TV. Sometimes I just want to watch something real quick while I'm eating or cleaning or whatever, and I don't care what it is.

That is the understatement of the week >_< Netflix announced a while back that they were dropping a lot of studios so they could focus on Netflix Original content. We've been watching a lot more Hulu and Amazon Prime since then, though even their selections are a bit lacking these days.

I also hate when I get in the mood to watch something specific, only to find that it had expired. It's nice to be able to just find my disc, rather than have to pay $5 to "rent" something from Amazon Prime or YouTube.

Speaking of renting, Family Video still does pretty well for itself around these parts.

I don't have the money to buy much so pirating is the only way I could have most of the media I do. It's NOT like I'm actually taking anything away from the people who made the stuff since I wouldn't have it otherwise & other people can still pay for it if they want & can afford to. The only difference is that I get to have it & this is how lots of people feel.

...This headline made me feel old and left-behind. My situation means I have hardly ever had any home playback devices - Since I have no home! - for most of the time these many years, I've hardly ever had a DVD player ever -I've had real cheap ones briefly, when I've had brief home/-tyle situations that didn't last :( - and now I hear that even having a CDis old hat, all the kewweulll people have Spotify playlists or whatever. I don't even know how that works! Likewise, I've generally not even had a CD player in recent times.
I haven't had a turntsble in even more years, too. I'd like to have one :| - Crosley, I know, makes these cheap turntables,-plys.

Nearly everyone I know still buys DVDs. I hate netflix and other stuff like that. I prefer to collect box sets and DVDs and put them into a TV set to watch. All computers do is constantly need updates, virus protection, internet connection, and online banking. I sooner rely on a TV and a DVD player.

That's a good point. I had to watch two of the movies on my list today as they were due to expire this Tuesday and I wouldn't have time to watch them in the week due to work commitments. It is annoying when stuff you want to watch disappears before you get a chance to see it.

I only buy blu rays if I really like something. For everything else there's Roku.
