...The most god-awful piece of Americanized crap ever produced.
What the hell happened to Kim, and Kel?!
They've desperate housewivesized Kath and Kim!! At least U.S The Office is pretty good in the new season... But this, scrawny, White picket fence version of a classic is terrible, through and through.
Not noiyce! Not noiyce at all.

Know what you mean, from the adverts they dont realy have any of the dorkyness that we loved the original. They were all suposed to be realy the normal uncool people, but it looks like they tried to turn them into what they think everyone wants to be. From the look of it they dont even appear to be the normal as it looks like a mansion or something, what happend to low end suburbs.

It was quite 'hit and miss' though, the comedy, some episodes and series were unfunny. but some worked great.

Well, at least this season's other remake, Life on Mars - was alright (but not as good as the original). I'm getting sick of TV Guide and USA Today and other publications run by morons proclaiming the original was "canceled" after 16 episodes when it was only designed to run for 16 episodes (yes, there could've been a few more episodes, but the last episode was a real finale). I mean, alot of British TV shows have series (read: seasons) that are only 8 or 9 episodes and only 2 or three series at that (see also: "Fawlty Towers" and "The Young Ones", two of the finest TV comedy programs ever made).

Why would you have expected it to be any good?

Look at the history of remaking things for the US

The Office (Apparently good)
Red Dwarf (Crap)
Kath and Kim (Probably Crap)
Ringu (Not too bad)
The Grudge (Crap)
The Eye (Crap)
Doctor Who - The Enemy Within (Crap)
Are you being served (Crap)
Dad's Army (Crap)
Fawlty Towers (Crap)
Vicar of Dibley (who knows... but starring Kirstie Alley ... I'm gonna go with ... CRAP!)
Insomnia (passable but still crap)
Vanilla Sky (Crap)
Les Visiteurs (Crap)

Oh... I'm getting sick of typing and I've made my point.

wait. which bad Fawlty Towers Americanization? There's three and they were all awful (the first only had a pilot aired, the second managed 13 episodes - one more than the original, and the last lasted 9 episodes).

But look on the plus side. Here's some SUCCESSFUL US remakes of UK shows

The Office (aforementioned)
Sanford and Son (based off "Steptoe and Son")
All in the Family (based off "Till Death Do Us Part")
Welcome Back, Kotter (based off "Please, Sir")
Three's Company (based off "Man About The House")

and three that were imported with its cast intact and were merely continuations:
Da Ali G Show
Little Britain USA
Whose Line is it Anyway?

I have little hope for the alleged Spaced remake.

The thing is that the UK has a class system which is quite different from Australia or the US, so the scripts which rely on this for humor don't work. Similarly there doesn't seem to be a proper US "dag" class which is similar to Kath and Kim.

Anything that gets the Hollywood treatment is going to suck badly, I had the chance to see the American version of Red Dwarf, it was terrible, not to mention Coupling, the UK version was one of the funniest show from the UK in years, but the US one couldn't even get a laugh out of its entire viewing audience.

From what I have seen the actor owns the character and decided not to sell out.
