It's dumb, it's boring compared to star wars.

I liked some of the movies, but next generation totally ruined it.

I hate Data, Spock was tolerable because he was sometimes grim.

Data is just a cheap stand-in for autistics, his whole robot thing is overplayed. Don't even get me started on Q

Never seen Star Trek, myself.

TNG is way better than the original 1960s Star Trek. You should watch DS9 especially the Dominion War episodes.

Star Wars... isn't even science fiction, it's a hokey space opera. The idea that anyone takes it seriously is completely beyond me.

Star Trek on the other hand is hokey science fiction. It may not do what it does well, but at least it has (occasionally realized) pretensions of intelligence.

I dislike TNG though and the series following it. And Star Trek was pretty crappy except a few episodes. But it and TNG had a core science fiction vision which was a little inspiring in a futuristic kind of way.

Most of the science in Star Trek is based on real scientific theories. However, the transporters are a good example of technology that will probably never be possible now or even in the future.

Nah. Transmats are way better.

So much hate for classic space shows.

I think these shows are a lot better when they're taken less seriously.

TNG could be a little too much at times, but overall some good characters and episodes came out of it. DS9 was good even though a lot of episodes began focusing on action. Then Voyager and Enterprise kind of ruined continuity and were sometimes just "out there".

Data and Spock were in two different leagues. Data was ignorant to human behavior and wanted to emulate it to become authentic. Spock outright rejected human behavior, and felt embarrassed by his human qualities slipping out.

And what about Q? Q was great! Hell, I'm named after a Q episode!



...Isn't that the point of Star Wars? (The originals anyway). "Hokey space opera" makes it fun to watch. It's supposed to be like old movie serials.

I have seen Star Trek the original and the other shows a bit and I'm ok with it.

Entirely your perogative. *shrugz* Just as it is your perogative not to watch it.

Personally I quite like Star Trek. Especially Deep Space Nine. It's wikkid cool.

I also like Star Wars - although consider it to be far more like epic or fantasy than Sci-Fi. (That is not a criticism by the way - epic and fantasy are two of my favourite genres.)

Yes, but it makes it a poor thing to compare to a science fiction show. Apples and oranges and pears, oh my!

I've only just started watching TNG - never seen it until now. I've finished watching Season 1. It's not as boring as I expected but it's not exactly great either...

I'm not sure if it compares favourably to the 1987 season of Doctor Who. (Time And the Rani
Paradise Towers, Delta And the Bannermen, Dragonfire) - Not the best season by any means.

Certainly, the props in Star Trek are better (anything would be more realistic than the ice caves of Dragonfire). The effects though are not as much better as I'd have expected. Not considering the budget difference between Doctor Who and STNG.

That said, I'm a bit biased and I have to admit that by the end of Season 1, STTNG was getting quite good....

Paradise Towers and Dragonfire were the best of that season of Doctor Who...

Kane's death in Dragonfire is probably the goriest death in Doctor Who, with the runner-up being that young Dulcian's death (I think her name was Tolata) in The Dominators (they used oil rippling over water, I've read, and superimposed it over a photo of her faced to make it look like it was melting. Yuck.). The first part of The Dominators is on YouTube, actually. I know that the title sounds suss, but it has nothing to do with kinky sex practices.

I think the consensus is that TNG was at its best around Season 3 (with "The Best of Both Worlds").

i love sci-fi, but i hate star trek and star wars lol! *shrugs*
