I was watching Naked Gun today, and then Epic Movie. The thing I have noticed is the new satire movies that have been out in the last few years are terrible.

Naked Gun managed to be original, along with Hot Shots( there were references to other movies), but the plots were original. Naked Gun was about a plot to kill the queen, Hot Shots was about a plot to discredit the fighter planes used by the Navy etc... Same with the plots of Naked Gun 2 1/2 and Hot SHots Part Deux, etc..

The satire movies today are just lazy. Epic Movie was mainly making fun of Chronicles of Narnia. Meet The Spartans was 300. It goes on.

I could watch Naked Gun over and over again, yet Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans grow old about 10 minutes in to the movie

That's because Friedberg and Seltzers movies aren't satires, they're just lazy plagiarism. It's allowed because the movies "spoofed" are owned by the same companies that are funding these rancid sh*t-piles. And they'll keep on coming out, because they're cheap to make and just enough middle-schoolers go to see them to turn a profit. Yay. (Said in the most sarcastic manner possible)

Normally I find dumb humor funny, but anything titled "____ Movie" has all of the dumb and none of the humor.

Also, those remakes of 80's TV shows were pretty terrible as well. Starsky and Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard and the others from a few years ago. The only good remake of an 80's show was the Miami Vice movie, because it was actually produced by the original creator and it was dark, and serious.

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were very good satire,
because Pegg/Frost/Wright took the conventions of the
genre, be it a cop movie or a zombie movie, and satirized them.

To be more honest, no one wants to see "new satire" anymore.
"Disaster Movie" flopped when it was released last summer.

And will someone PLEASE bring Lesile Nielsen out of retirement
and show Seltzerburg how satire is done correctly?

I've noticed this too, and it's really quite sad.
Satire movies used to poke fun at how movies come across as ridiculous with their cliches, merchandising, etc. But now they've become just as bad (actually worse) than the very movies they mock, squeezing in as many fart jokes & lousy celebrity imitations as possible.
I'll take Spaceballs over Meet the Spartans any day.

Mel Brooks and the Zucker Bros. are the best.

I totally agree. I will say Scary Movie 3 and 4 were better than the first 2, because it had David Zucker as director and Leslie Nielsen as the President.

Anyone ever heard of spill.com? They do movie reviews and rate them on a scale of 1-5, like this?

5 - "Better than sex!"
4 - "Full Price"
3 - "Matinee"
2 - "Rental"
1 - "Some ol' bulls**t"

Well, from what I remember they did a review of one of these spoofs... either Meet the Spartans or Disaster Movie... and they hated it so much they gave it a rating of 0... in other words, "F**K THIS!! !"

"__Movie" 's aren't satire, they're parody.

Amen to that... Mel Brooks needs to get back into the movie business and show these lousy upstarts how it's done...

Oh, how I long for more movies like Spaceballs. And the Naked gun movies. The best comedy movies since then have been things like Dumb & Dumber, Something about Mary, etc., and none of them really qualify as satire at all.
