Ok, i don't know if anyone can relate, but when it's dinner time, my mom usually wants to see a movie, an old one -.- Mostly for the sake of having one of her favorite actors in it (Harrisson Ford, Sylvester Stallone, and the like, i'm sure you get the point) even though my dad disagrees with her mediocre choice, he still has to comply even though 1) they've seen at least once or more, 2) there's clearly more intelligent shows going on that might not be played back in the nearby future (such as documentary shows).

And even though this is dinner, and we're supposed to eat, it's like their brains completly freeze, i can't even say a word because i'm told to shut up or move away when i go and help myself to food. Can't even make criticism regarding the movie (just tonight was a rather old movie called "Air Force One" (1997) and the plot was totally predictable). For one, it kind of glorifies the person of the brave president, who single-handedly goes to fight a small squad of communists who highjacked his plane -.- (played by none other than mister H. Ford) and well, i could add more but i'd be rambling.

I usually hurry up and finish eating then scurry off to my room or elsewhere to save myself from the infectious stupidity of the situation.

Does this happen to anyone else? <.<

Wow, no, totally the opposite. My mom wouldn't let us watch TV during dinner at all, even though my Dad and I both wanted to. She said since she'd gone to the trouble to cook dinner that we could at least talk to her for half an hour while we ate it.

We usually talk during pub breaks -.- Or if it's the news, thankfully it's mostly my dad and me left at this point. My mom also won't move on to the next dish unless there's a pub or someone not entirely interested by what's going on volunteers to go.

Usually we're eating about 6:30 or 7. In the case of the former we all eat together in te kitchen and watch Friends as a family. In the case of the latter it's usually my sister in the basement watching whatever she watches, my mother in the den watching Judging Amy and my in my computer room watching Law & Order: SVU. Only occassionally do we eat as a family and discuss what on during our say.

My family's like that too. They're always constantly demanding me to stay and chat for like an hr after I'm finished eating. But most of the hourlong conversations are always dealing with starting a family business or dumb stuff like that argh.

My dad and I will watch shows together (like Lost) but I usually prefer watching TV alone. It's normal for people to get excited when something is happening in an episode or laugh at a funny joke...but I prefer to do it when I'm watching TV alone cuz I will feel like people are judging me.

I'm an aspie minority when it comes to this stuff. I am not constantly making sarcastic/criticizing remarks about things I'm not enjoying out loud (my aspie friends do all the time but not me) unless it's a film we're watching for the lulz.

One of the things I missed about my old apartment is being able to enjoy a meal infront of my large screen TV.

My family and I watch tv while eating dinner every night. In fact, my family never really sits at the table to eat unless we have someone over for a really special occasion or something... We just take our plate of food into the living room and watch whatever. We used to do the normal table thing back when i was little, but that seems like ages ago.
