If death notes were real and you got one what would you do?

In the anime series Death Note
Shinigami use death notes to write humans names in when it is time for them to pass away.
But Ryuk ( a Shinigami) drops his into the human world because he is bored.
Light Yagami picks it up and decides to use it to kill criminals.

It you were in Light's position what would you do?
get rid of it?
use it to kill criminals(like murderers and rapists)?
use it to kill your rivals?
attempt to become "the god of the new world"?

I have thought about this quite a bit, the power to kill can be coruptable and is dangerous to ones own mind, but they also say that evil truley wins when good people do nothing. So I say only use it for special occasions/cases, I don't want to start thinking that I am better then everyone else in the world, plus make it look like accidents so that it can not be traced back.

Republicans

I'd put it through a paper shredder. There's no one I want dead and no one's death would benefit me, so there's no reason for me to use a Death Note.

I might save it away to protect against another Hitler, etc. But I wouldn't use it in the here and now.

Democrats

Save it. Might come in handy. I'm not really clever enough to use it for gain, and the assassination business seems risky.

I'm in the camp of "evil triumphs when good people do nothing."

I would write down the names of dictators and their innermost circle first.... have them write down confessions of all the terrible things they did and then kill themselves all at the same moment. Imagine the effect that would have! Also, I would get rid of other victimizers of the helpless (rapists, domestic abusers and the people running the Judge Rotenberg Center, for instance).

I would also not do the whole business of killing people who were in my way like Light did. It seems to attract trouble, and undermines the message of ONLY stopping abuse and exploitation.

I'd definitely keep it. Whether I'd use it is another matter . I'd be conflicted b/c I generally believe the power to take life should not be in the hands of humans, but I recognize that some people do the unthinkable.

Use it on myself.

Just thinking, if you kept it, but did not use it, the Shinigami might become pretty pissed, and they might kill you because it has to watch over you despite you not useing it. Must think of way to entertain a god of death, or maybe find a way to trick them into protecting me, then I might be able to live like 200 years.

And for the lols. "I will take a potato chip, and eat it."

That was my question. Could it be used to effect a painless suicide?

What would I do with a Death Note? Well... like a lot of people said, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If I had the power to kill indiscriminately without fear of repercussion, would it go to my head? Sure, in the beginning I would use it to get rid of despicable people, but in the end what defines a person as deserving of death? In the end it would probably be like the One Ring; even when used for good, it would turn a person evil through its use. Best just to burn it.

I think most of the victims of the note actually suffered heart attacks. My memory is well fuzzy though, I could be dead wrong.
