why is kung fu such a vital part of the matrix programming?

either kung fu, or kickass guns.

one would think that a matrix programming, based on awesomely innovative robot technology, would use other methods of erradicating problematic beings, that are more effective than AGES old martial arts, and israeli gun designs...

They fight when they are in the Matrix with weapons and styles that are available in the construct--it's like picking your weapons in a video game. The software only allows them to have things that exist in that virtual world.

When they are in the "real world", you'll notice they fight with things like ships and mechs, not hand to hand.

what about the agents? one wound imagine them to carry better weapons than unreliable cool-for-movie guns made in the middle east :]
and even "in the matrix" there are more effective methods of killing, than kung fu. what about... sniper rifles? unmanned drones?

More effective does not translate to entertaining on the big screen, so we get flashy gung fu.

yeah, i was being kinda rethorical. nobody seems to have had any problems with it tho. "flaws" like these really get to me tho... such as the rave-party in zion.
yeah, its the year 2200 or something, and they go for a good old rave party. "we're about to be destroyed, what better oportunity to do a good old 200 years old rave party! everybody get your rave-feet out! we're gonna partayyyy! btw, whats the old people doing here? get rid of them."

okay ill stop now :D
(no i wont) :D

What, like making a big asteroid land on Neo? Something like that would mess up the city, calling too much attention to the fight, and he'd probably just break it in half with his head anyway.

As for sniper rifles, if that's what they used, the people would have learned to wear body armor. And unmanned drones.. how is that different from the agents?

unmanned drones fly

body armor against sniper rifles? huh :]
so people dont die from sniper rifles anymore, right? sniper rifles dissapeared from use, the day body armor was invented?
thanx, i didnt know that :]

Well, like on their heads and stuff too. I never understood why people who are in danger of getting sniped don't cover EVERYTHING. And they could program it to be as strong as they wanted.

Neo flies.

neo flies, so agents should fly too. makes no sense.

and as for the sniping, the point of sniping is that the victim isnt prepared to be sniped, if they were, they would stay inside, and behind walls ;)

also, bullet proof vests dont _stop everything_ just cus the name implies so. most rifle ammunition will pierce old fashioned vests like a hot knife in butter, especially if you pull up a heavy set 50 cal sniper.

what about cruise missiles? why dont they just missile neo? if missiles are part of the matrix, they can use anything the matrix includes. if neo gets away, then use that new australian invention, that super automatic artillery machine "upto a million projectiles fired at once" or something. i mean.. the possibilities are endless, and they stick to the hth and handguns.
AND they dont use bulletproof vests when they actually WOULD protect against handguns. tsk tsk 8)

Like arielhawksquill said, they use it because it's available within the rules of the Matrix.

Notice that in Neo and Bane's fight scene on the Logos, they don't use fancy martial arts moves at all?

With what Neo is able to do, I don't think it would matter how big and bad their weapons were.

Maybe they were trying to psych him out or wear him down by using all those agents. He had to think a lot to fight them, instead of just sticking his hand out and stopping a bullet/missile/whatever.

what about programming his ass onto an asteroid, and flinging him into the sun?

thats what i'd do, if i was the matrix, and neo was a problem.

Weapons don't work on Neo, he is THE ONE!! !! He is literally a GOD in The Matrix, and by the time the Matrix trilogy starts Neo is still plugged in, they aren't aware of who he is, and by the time Reloaded comes along, they upgrade the Agents to be more sufficient in fighting him, even though it's not good enough, and the Matrix is based upon the 20th century, it wouldn't make sense to have robots flying around now would it?
