Hi, my name is Andrew and I'm a self-diagnosed aspie. I'm 19, male and I come from down under ie. Australia.

I first came to understand more about myself and my awkwardness in social situations a year ago, when I first attended university (or college in the US). Strangely enough, I never noticed my anti-social tendencies when I was younger. I was very protected by my family and by my friends in high-school. They are the nicest people to me in this world, but they have also made my future life very difficult indeed, because I never understood how to interact with other people. They could tolerate my childish weirdness and accepted me as that. In the end, I am having trouble maturing and breaking out of my shell to socialise.

I hope to understand myself more during my time here. I wish to learn more social skills that can help me make friends and acquaintances. It sounds like a stupidly simple thing to wish for, BUT I wish for it dearly everyday.

I apologise for the lengthy post. Here, I'll end off listing some of my hobbies: Naruto, Mizayaki's anime, philosophy, piano and most of all having a good time!

btw, how do I get avatars and banners? also can some1 give me tips to find my place around?

Big thanks in advance.

Welcome, SleepingDoofus. I love your username.

Please feel free to get comfortable with the site by reading some of the forums. Post in any that interest you. We're a pretty flexible bunch so just go ahead and jump in anywhere.

I assume you saw that the site also has a chat room? Its open 24/7 but we try to meet there Saturday night (US time) so its more active then. I think. I'm not much of a chat-er.

Its a tough balancing act for parents between protection and overprotection. As you have learned, the hard way, too much protection can hurt too.

Again, welcome.

BeeBee

Hi Andrew, Tristan here

I wondering where in Australia you're from. I'm from Bendigo myself.

Suilad. :) The way that you get an avatar would be finding one online, saving it to your computer and then going to the profile and uploading it. Then you can choose to have it as your avatar. Good luck with this, and if you need more help, there are several people around here who are much better with technology than I am. ;)

As for finding your way around, click on links of topics that intrest you and try posting there. Chances are that people will be open to what you have to say and enjoy your company.

Thanks everyone who posted.

Tristan: I live in Sydney. I'm not sure, but is Bendigo in NSW?
