Hi, I,m new on this forum. I,m 50 and female.
My problem is; How do I know if I have Aspeger?
I have trouble understanding people (especially my husband) if they are nor very clear in there words. I have a panic disorder, can't stand loud sounds and too bright artifial light. My motor skills are not too good, it takes me a long time to learn (like drive a car) once I learned I do well.
I do fine in general, but my husband doesn't understand that I don't understand gestures or hints. I am always in doubt what he means. And that gives trouble.
Already for years I think I have a light form of autism and this comes closest,
But how can I be sure???
Help welcome,
Pooh

Hi and welcome to the Aspie community...

If you want to know if your on the Autism spectrum you could start with this test:
Take The Official Aspergers AQ TEST http://asplanet.info/forum/index.php?topic=77.0

As far as diagnosis, I believe that it a process that can take a while. You could start by reading some of the standard books, such as Tony Attwood's Aspergers Syndrome, in addition to the web as you are doing.
The Complete Guide to Asperger's - on line book info. nearly 400 pages read and enjoy
To read more click on link:

Then asking someone who knows you well and you trust to give their honest opinion along the lines of the questionnaires. If it still looks like AS, the next step should be an assessment by a clinician who has some knowledge of the area (you have to ask around), but this would cost.

How interesting you call yourself Pooh. My Aspie wife of 32 years calls herself Tiggerr. I feel your anxiety. I hope your husband has a great deal of patience and remembers he loves you. If he does, he'll be patient and work with you on how best to communicate in a way that works for both of you. Please, don't take my statement as proof that I always follow my own advice. But, I try.

Welcome Pooh. 51 year old female here, unofficially diagnosed,
but have suspected I have had it myself ever since I heard about
it several years ago. Glad you dropped by, hope you like it here.

Thank you all for the welcome.

I did that test; it came out on 38. Gosh I always thought I was quite flexible ;-)
Pooh was the name of one of my dogs.
I will keep reading; I would like to be more sure before I pose this to my husband.
What finally triggered me to do something with it was a programm on TV; I am not like that woman, but all that she described. I had this "your mouth falls open" experience.

Whenever I have time I hope to browse more in this forum to get to know you all a bit better.

Pooh.
