Thank you for the welcome Aspie206. I don’t know how to use forums - is there anywhere on the site that explains what all the buttons mean?

hiya and welcome Dudeness

to answer your question- on the menu bar, the buttons just control the final appearance of what you type in the post window, and also allow you to quote text, display photos/graphics and hyperlinks to other sites including youtube videos. you have your smilies on the bottom of the post window and "view more smileys" which brings up a box with a bunch more. "attach a signature" allows you to automatically append [beneath a dividing line] a quote or series of words of your choice, the same for every post. "notify me when a reply is posted" sends you an email when you get a reply to what you posted. "submit" means "post what you wrote." "preview" lets you check how it will appear before posting. "save draft" means you're thinking about what your final post will be like, like a scratch pad. then you can cancel the whole thing if you have misgivings. if you click the earth next to the alien in "wrong planet" atop the page, that takes you to the front page of the site. you can search in the search window atop the page, for particular member's posts. you can click the hyperlinks top-right of the page you can either see what you've posted or see others' replies to what you've posted. the rest is somewhat self-explanatory.
