Hi there, so I'm new here (as evidenced by posted in the new people subforum)...I'm a 19 year old girl living in Montreal, currently undergoing a psych evaluation with Aspergers as a differential diagnosis. I was a gifted and super hyperlexic kid (reading before a year old) who went from a full scholarship to one of the best schools in the country to a college dropout. I saw this little survey on one of the other threads, so I'm going to fill it out here.

Hobbies and Interests: Astronomy, playing with my cats or my chinchillas, listening to music, writing, physics

Why are you here? I want to talk to other people on the autism spectrum and just meet other people who don't feel completely like they belong here, Wrong Planet is an apt name for that sort of thing.

When were you diagnosed?: It's ongoing but since I was 4, then a lapse until I was 15...I'm 19 now.

Favorite subjects: English, Art, Physics, Math, Astronomy, Philosophy

Year/Grade: 1st year College

Favorite music: Old rock, Incubus!! !, anything that sounds like I'm in space...

Books: Science fiction mostly

TV shows/Movies: Don't like to watch screens, they make my eyes hurt, but Cosmos if I had to pick anything

Instrument: Telescope

Do you like sports? Not really, but like to watch rowing sometimes.

Family: Mother, half-sister

Clothing: Big tshirts (usually black) and leggings (always black), hoodies, gym socks inside out

so you like scifi books? can you recommend any? granted I haven't read many scifi, but from the ones I have read I can't say I like them. Any suggestions?

It all depends on what kind of sci-fi you think you might be interested. A great primer is the Ender series by Orson Scott Card (the first book is called Ender's Game). It's about very intellectually advanced children becoming soldiers to fight against the perceived threat of an alien race.

Tony Vigorito has some good funny metaphysical stuff (Nine Kinds of Naked, Just a Couple of Days.

Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle In Time is a good sci-fi/fantasy crossover, in fact the whole series is great.

In the same vein with super-advanced children, I'd recommend Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End.

Dune by Frank Herbert, Contact (Carl Sagan), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams), War of the Worlds (HG Wells), The Martian Chronicles (Ray Bradbury) are some of the basics that I'd give to just about anyone to start with.

Ender's Game is one I've recently read and didn't care for. I liked the ending, but the rest of it wasn't that good IMO. But thank's for the list and welcome, hopefully I'll find something I like and you'll like wrongplanet.

I have only gone as far as college (we call it Cegep, here in Quebec) level Physics, but I greatly enjoyed it. I had a fantastic teacher in high school who really encouraged me to learn at my speed (which seemed to be accelerated, at least compared to the rest of the class). In college we did the basics, optics, magnetism, mechanics, nothing that I hadn't covered before.

I dropped out of school because I was there during a school shooting (way back in 2006) and I developed some post traumatic stress issues.

M_p_furo, I studied General Social Science, but I plan to transfer to a Double DEC (Diploma of Collegial Studies, but in French) in Social Science and Sciences.

MADDuck, What is your favourite pie? I find reading and sometimes baking to be a great stim (when I'm not running my hands through my hair or pulling on my earlobes or wiggling in general).
