Hoards of reporters: "...Stop writing down everything I say!! !@#%*! !!", he said...
Peter: :x Look!! ! The whole point of my being a hermit is that I wish to remain obscure, get it?!
Reporters: Oh no! You're going to be famous all right...
Peter: Go a-w-a-y!! ! I don't want fame! I want peace, quiet and obscurity! Peaceful, blissful obscurity!
Reporters: "Peter the Hermit, written into the annals of history, forever remembered by fastidious recordings of his every thought and move..."
Peter: :wall:
Reporters: "Peter, preparing for his arduous adventures, toughened his head against a wall today..."

Company scribe: "The sun was blotted by the feather-choked air. General Forrest had survived the ferocious whappings of a thousand pillows, and poking head through down yards thick, fluff dangling from mustache and eyebrows, surveyed the scene..."
General Forrest: (blowing feather off his nose) ...erm, can you make that part a little more, ...well, ...er, DANGEROUS or something?!?
Scribe: "...men with dust allergies swelled like balloons, and nearly died from raging hives, yet drove forward until the last pillow burst its mighty seams..."

:sunny: lurking and twitching (just the left hand is twitching, but it's driving me batty) :sunny:

I've been liking "Flook" lately. The title of this one could be my personal anthem. :)

Bog Blog topic

I can almost smell some of those putrid bog bodies. :eew: There is something about these petrified pieces of ancient human meat that evoke a sort of nausea. 8O

But they are interesting. 8)

reading and lurking
Glad to see you use a generator Chuck, that sounds PERFECT for me. A Bike ride to generate electric, I'd absolutly LOVE a set-up like that. I commend you all and will quit my whining :D .
I'm STILL waiting for the snow to melt off the trails (only in the shady spots) also enjoying the saga of Peter the Hermit I wish I was that imaginative. I'd tell mini-reika better stories. I used to tell my NT daughter the story of "Once upon a time there was a man. He lived, and he died, the end." She still gives me a hard time about my bad stories.
Enjoy your vacation SD, liked the poem also.
morning-after...I'm confused. How does other people showing their skin make you "feel dirty?" (admittedly there are times in my life I would have made you feel like you were swimming in mud, surrounded by "bog bodies" ) That doesn't make sense to me, what am I not getting. Did I misunderstand the statement? I'm not trying to "put you on the spot" or anything. Just curious as to why you'd feel "dirty" if someone else wore something more revealing than you. I personally was raised by "prudes" and taught to be ashamed of my body. However, I threw off that mantle of self-loathing long ago, and now revel in the human body and am no longer ashamed of mine. (no matter what I weigh at any given time. And I'm definatly no size 8 people :D )
Can't say reading and lurking now. Let me change that to "reading and posting"

When someone sees other's nudity or near nudity and 'feels dirty' it means they are reacting to the biological changes that happen to keep the species alive and functioning, i.e. they evidence biological sexual responses. If this feeling of biological reaction has been inculcated into them as 'dirty' because it is not in the context of approved convention they will strive to stop the reactions by condemning what they perceive as the perpetrator, when it is actually how they have been trained to interpret their biological reaction, and not the scantily clad.
This is why people inculcated in this interpretation strive so mightily to get other people to take on their proscribed actions and adhere to their conventions, so they won't have inappropriate thoughts.
the corrolary of this is: blame the victim i.e. (it's her fault she was raped cause she was 'asking' for it by her inappropriate dressing) Patriarchal societies invest quite a bit of this reasoning into their creed and regulations, the recent activities of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints come to mind.

I am not saying that this is morning_after's issue. Just exercising my Sociology degree.

I just have to say how WONDERFUL Sleepydragon's avatar is! It is fascinating, mesmerizing and beautiful!

I am a relative newcomer so perhaps Sleepy has been around a while. However, this is the first time I have seen this wonderful little lizard.

Colonist's kids: I'm thirsty! Mom!! ! I wanted that rock and Sammy took it! I'm bored! Dad!! ! Susy fell into a snake pit!....

Well, actually, it was No One In Their Right Mind Would Ever Colonize Here Bay - but after they tore down the big ol' hill between them and the lake, and used that to fill in the swamp on the south end, they renamed it Seattle, after a local Indian chief who was not named Seattle. I think the naming may have been shortly after they finally got their first still working.

Fortunately for Susy, we keep all the poisonous snakes on the other side of the mountains - unfortunately for her, she probably fell right on a ball of breeding banana slugs (which can grow to over a foot long)...

Do Matriarchal societies also invest themselves in this line of thinking? Just curious, why not ask someone who knows?
And Merle, your intellect is "Smoking Hot" and it lasts longer than superficial beauty. :D Revel in that, Sister! :D

I have only studied (poor choice of words in a sense) one Matriarchal society in any real depth and I would say no, Reika. That would be the Haudenosaunee, more commonly called the Iroquois Confederacy or the 6 Nations. They still are a Matriarchal society and I had the extreme honor getting to know some, briefly, and sitting on a council session with a group that was addressing an issue for consideration. It was an eye opener, to say the least. And of course I did not sit with the Grandmother's in this meeting. When one addresses an female elder, the correct way is to say Grandmother first and the given name does not need to be said. Grandmother alone is correct. It is no small thing that you address the other side as Grandfather. One might easily make the mistake to think of the Matriarchal society as one sided, not so. There was a very good practical reason for it to be set up this way, Matriarchal, and I would hazard a guess less so in this day and age. But why mess up something that works so very well? I have a deep and responding respect for them to this day. Just listening to them speak when they are being a little more formal is something to hear and they also write with this same eloquence.

I had an extreme case of culture shock  and I fully expect it would hit again, if I were to meet up with some again. (I'm still trying to find a couple, about SwampBlossom's and my age that we got to know all to shortly. He had some wonderful, ground breaking ideas about drinking and drugs and I'd dearly love to know how he and she are doing.) It was such a stark difference between what transpired in that meeting of people and what you might see on the floor of our Congress, my god it was f*****g civilized. Yeah there was culture shock and there was a calm.

But ask me if I believe in the "noble savage" concept and I'll tell you no. Man is a consumer and at best can only manage what's around us and even then, it will be in a time of plenty when we do. We're a part of nature and that we cannot escape, ever.

What did I say in the council when it was my turn? Lol, way less than I did above. It wasn't needed.

"People had a habit of looking at me as if I were some kind of mirror instead of a person. They didn't see me, they saw their own lewd thoughts, then they white-masked themselves by calling me the lewd one." Marilyn Monroe

And so we killed them, in one way or another and still do. I'd rather be the heathen I am. At least I can be honest about it.
