reveling in telling you there are not Matriarchal societies, there are Matrilineal societies but they do not have a mirror image of a Patriarchical set up. It might not have been obvious to any of us, but women and men think differently.

I would disagree with that, obviously. Actually you can have both together.

The women, in my case, tell the men how to do it and pick the leaders (Matriarchal), the men are the figure heads (but have a distinct say), they are told how to do it. The women owned the land and kept separate (clan) councils. When married the men came to the woman's home and it was just that, hers. (Matrilineal) But yes there are two different types.

You could argue and perhaps are that because the woman was not the crown wearing leader it isn't a Matriarchal and I think this is where we might be in disagreement. They run the show, have no doubt.

and that is my point. No grandstanding ( no pun intended) no power display, just no nonsense running the show.

Hell SwampBloosm dropped from High School at 16, got married and had her first by 17. When I met her she was about to finish college, after rasing a family, with honors in Anthro and is about 6 hours shy of having another in History with honors.

Her mentor and actually mine too (well we had a pleasant revelry going as to who was teaching who) was pissed as hell we got married. She had envisioned SwampBlossom going on to do Graduate and higher level schooling and I was in the way. Hell I never was in the way and wanted her to, she didn't want to and that was final. And that mentor was best gal at our wedding and we miss her, a lot, to this day. She died. (Our age Merle and was a freedom rider and proud as hell of her FBI record.) Never wore a bra and damned if she didn't know she could embarrass the s**t out of me when I needed to discuss an Archaeology matter in the field with her and she was in a unit below me. I think she took a special glee in it. Give a hiPpie a PHD and watch out.

I haven't been posting (or even lurking) much on WP these days — except for the Café. The reason for this is that I, too, am a cranky old broad. And while I can b***h & bellyache with the best of them, after 52 years of trying to justify my existence to an unsympathetic world, I'm sick of always being on the defensive. The Café is one of the few places where I can be myself without being called out for it.

Sorry if that sounds harsh. You, and all the other people who are new to the place, are gladly welcomed here. I hope that you will soon feel as at home here as I do.

Merle, "The Night of Too Many Stars" must not be airing in Australia, or if it is, I haven't seen any mention of it.

"The Night of Too Many Stars" is painful to watch. Comedy is such an exact science. A joke either works or it doesn't. Anyway, it's for the 'painful disease of autism' But it is mostly a mish mash of comedy acts and monologues.

At least they finally got Steven Wright in there - having an autism special without Steven Wright would be kind of like having a Labor Day telethon without wheelchairs.

Pity he had to share the stage with Chris Rock, but it confirmed something for me - Wright is not only the funniest man on the planet with his own material, he's funnier than the other comedians when he does their stuff! (Assuming, of course, you laugh at absurdist humor as much as I do.)

There was quite a lot of stuff in there, though, that had me wondering, "Is that what makes NTs laugh? No wonder they don't think we have a sense of humor!"

I have been suspecting Steven as one of us pretty much since I first learned about AS and sure have been using some of his material around here, with due credit. Is he actually DXed with AS? Not that he would need to be or even want to be. I've been to his home site a bunch and never seen it mentioned. He's into painting now as well. His comedic genius is, well genius. But damned if it isn't clear where he gets his material. His line that he often uses at the end of a joke "I'm like that all the time" is excellent.

There was a post the other day about aspie comedians and I couldn't believe that no one had put him down as being a possible fellow aspie. So I did. I wonder if I'll get sued. But than maybe he doesn't know Sue.

I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time.

I went to unlock my apartment door, and I used my car key by accident, and I started up the building. So I drove it around for a while. Then I parked it on the interstate and went out and yelled at everyone to get out of my driveway.

I had a skylight installed. The people upstairs are furious.

Sex with Rachel is amazing, it really is. It's like a rock concert. She yells a lot, and throws frisbees around the room, and when it's over, if she wants more, she lights a match.

I used to work in a factory. They made fire hydrants. You couldn't park anywhere near the place.

When I moved into my new place, there was this one switch on the wall that didn't do anything. Every time I went by, I'd flip it up and down a few times. Then a few months later, I got a letter from a lady in Germany, saying, "Cut that out."

Ok, I stop now or I'll go on all night.

You ready for this? I was told to stay off WP. I had the audacity to even say I might be an Aspie in front of a professional. She didn't have a clue. Had never even entertained the thought that an aspie could have possibly filtered through the military and the drafted military at that. (christ I had needle tracks running up and down both arms and they didn't care one bit, good to go they said) That I was filling my head with nonsense and was becoming obsessed with it. (obsessed? me? What part didn't she understand? turns out she read the kids version and not the adult, but wait, there is no adult section, duh!!) The war, which you have alluded to, getting tired of being on the defensive. I filled her in and she just sat there. After I got done, she asked if I would like to be evaluated. I haven't made up my mind 100% about it, but think I won't, leaning that way anyway. And then at the end, she seemed a bit pissed that i would DX myself and I should leave it to the pros. Now what part about having faith in the system and no one detecting anything or more rightly didn't give a s**t, didn't she see? She has a good heart, misguided at times and I still love her to death. She's an ex-Vietnam combat nurse and god help you if you mess with an ill vet when she's around and we feel the same about her. But like krex said the other day, I'm getting damned sick and tired of doing their job for them. I mean I'd like a little feed back from them and not have to teach them the subject to begin with.

But damned if this war doesn't get old and wear on us. It does. Yes it does. I'm sure not as resilient as I use to be. You and I have another common as well and that alone can wear a person down. How the hell did we even make it this far Sleepy? Oh yeah, I drank a lot.

Merle made a really funny comment the other day: "I'm alive because I'm not dead!"

i've got the job ...

i arrived in the city on thursday, decided that i'd stay in the city with my daughter (and not in the countryside with son)
i've read a job announcement on friday, had an appointment today, and will start tomorrow

they were astonished to find someone with the correct diploma, they were ready to accept people who had not even finished their bachelor or had some other kind of diploma.

well, life in the city is different

i now have to subscribe to change my address

at least my life will get back to regularity, which i really really really need now.

Oh and those photos of your place you sent the other morning? I made the mistake of showing The Wife, she'll be visiting soon. I told you she would fall in love with them. I get peace and quiet and you guys get my wife, err wait, she liked the country house pictures and you aren't there. I don't know as I like that arrangement. Never mind she won't be coming.
