there is a short, red-headed female who's in deep doo-doo in san diego. had me drop her and a friend off at the trolley at 6:00 this evening, was going downtown to a concert. was supposed to call and let me know they got there and when the concert was supposed to end, as i was to drive down there (it's pouring rain) to pick them up so they wouldn't be on the trolley at night (it's the orange line, not a good place for two girls to be alone on a friday night).

it's now 11:40pm and i've not had a phone call yet. and her phone is off.

Boy Nana...I saw the short red head part and started getting a bit nervous..I can hear the "mother voice all the way in MN. Glad it's not me facing your wrath. I'm sure she will be fine but you should make sure and throw some extra laundry are dish doing into any punishment for the inconveniencing you.

Hope you hear from her soon. I guess my mom was lucky, I used to wait until she was sound asleep before I snuck out(So she wouldn't have to worry) ...odd, that she never seemed to appreciate this courtesy.

i guess there were no house phones, or outside, etc..... :x

it's been dealt with.

:) I wouldn't be in the kid's shoes for anything.

And as I write this, I have to break off every five minutes to keep my own two hellions from dismantling each other. Lovely way to spend a Sunday arvo... (not)

once upon a time there was a public phone that you could always count on. Slide in the nickle or dime or even a quarter and it connected you to whom ever whenever.
But now they are dinosaurs revived by some 1010 calling card is the only thing that makes them tick. We are required to have a telephone that picks up all signals everywhere in the world and there obviously are places where it will not transmit.

I don't think this is an improvement over that nickle phone.

Have you seen the film "Clockwise" with John Cleese?

He needs to make an urgent call to the headmaster's conference that he is trying to get to to say that he will be late. The first telephone he tries has someone in it; the second has been vandalised, but the third seems alright. Hooray, he thinks,... until he puts in his coin; it is eaten up/not acknowledged.

He gets another coin ( from the schoolgirl without a drivers license driving her parents car without their permission ( he doesn't know this), who he has roped into driving him the 300 something miles to the conference after he missed the train because he wasn't listening properly to the station guard) , and when he puts that in...it jams, won't go in.

He tries using the handset to push it in, and when it won't, and his last chance to pass a message is lost he smashes the handset against the apparatus. An old woman living in the house opposite the phone booth who has been watching from behind her lace curtains says to her daughter, " They're vandalising the telephones again" Her daughter calls the police.... etc...

It's a hysterically funny film, the second time, when are no longer under the illusion that it will finish happily.

Sorry, that must be because I hated the film, ( it was like an aspie OCDers worst nightmare), the first time I watched it because I kept hoping that he would be able to sort everything out and come out on top. Whereas the next time I watched it I was collapsing with laughter, tears streaming etc.

Sorry. :( :? I may have thought it was so old ( 1988 ish ) that it was more like a reminder than a recommendation. It is definitely worth watching though. :D

In the same black-humoured vein is the film After Hours (1985) with Griffin Dunne. I won't spoil the ending of it (she said virtuously, polishing her halo :D ), but suffice to say that it does not end quite as happily as Groundhog Day.

Edit: 41 pp to go!
