When I threw the quote from Ringworld into that infamous thread, I left out an especially choice bit. The insult that Nessus makes to get the kzin's attention in the first place is this: "You never met my kzin, Kchula-Rrit? I keep it as a pet." (-Rrit is the family name of the Patriarch of Kzin.) I've had to backspace quite a lot of this post entry because Stripes is "helping" me. Headbutting my fingers mostly. ![]()
Sometimes I feel like I'm on the wrong planet. Just where did the page go where the Larry Niven books got discussed?
I'd keep Kzin as pets, but I'd always be worried that I'd break them.
Must go... Cthulhu is banging on the door, again.

An unorthadox thought about migrains....Perhaps it is the only way your mind/body can get you to take some time for yourself to rest?If I push to many programs to fast in my computer...it freezes.Nothing to do but shut it down for awhile.If someone touches a hot stove,it hurts and they avoid hot stoves.When I have a cavity it hurts like heck,it's the only thing that will push me into the dentist.But what can the mind do to tell you to stop overloading it?It can take you on an interesting voyage called psychosis...(ah,pleasant holiday at the shore this week),or it can freeze up like my computer, known as psychotic coma or it can hurt so bad that you stop putting any stimula into it....no sound,no lights,no screaming kids,etc.I hope you are feeling better today Blessedmom.
I woke after 3 hours of sleep and decided that I need to start thinking about looking for a new job.The sensory overload of the dogs barking,the smell of all the cleaning chemicals and doggy poo,the constant battle with rashes....has made me dread going into work.I hate to be a "wimp" and I will miss the dogs but it's making me so tired I have no energy for anything else on my days off.I think I am going to go to some employment web sites today and do a search for...overnights/autism/dog walking and see what I find.(No,I am not planning on taking autistic dogs for a 2am stroll
)
Thought on AS for the day....
When I was in my AS DX appointment.One of the questions was about showing someone something you found interesting as a kid.Supposedly,autistic kids dont "share" things of interest in their environment with others
.I recall "trying" to show my parents cool insects or rocks I had found and they showed no interest.Other times I can recall being so ingrossed in something in nature that I was oblivious to anyone in my environment,but as soon as I snapped out of it,I couldnt wait to show/tell someone.Other times I just didnt have the words to explain how "cool" something I saw was to me.Mostly I recall adults being to busy to be bothered as they seemed not very interested in studying the latest fossil.One of the "traits" of As is supposed to be "lecturing"(and boring)people about your special interest....and this isn't sharing???Seeing all the utubes we "show" each other made me remember one of the worst feelings when I had no one to talk to was that after I read a book I really loved,I had no one to share it with and it took away some of the joy of reading.When something gives me pleasure,I want to pass that on to someone I care about.However,if the aspie interest is so obscure(ie not American Idol,lol),that no one else seems to get the same "rush" from it,it feels lonely.So,do we really have no need to make that kind of connection with another human or do we just get shut down so often when others dont share our interests,that we learn to stop trying(Until we meet a group of like minded)?

Delicate little things, they are.
On a totally different subject, I've just been flicking thru a book of tesselations and patterns. There's all manner of stuff in there - concentric circles, Celtic knots, overlapping fish scales etc. - but no Penrose tiles. I've always thought Penrose tiles would make a good basis for a fabric patchwork. And it couldn't be much harder piecing one of those than it would be to piece triangles together. That's another item to put on the list of "things to do in some hypothetical future."
Love your insights Krex! Good points all! Good luck in the job search! (Walking autistic dogs at 2:00am doesn't sound too bad actually!
)
Enjoyed Monty Python's song from Life of Brian Quatermass!
Hilltop Hoods remind me of Eminem SleepyDragon! Love a little Marshall Mathers now and then! If you figure out how to make "hypothetical work done" transform instantly into "actual work done" I need your secret!
Welcome back Mescalaro!
Lau writes in Greek, has a dread evil alien knocking at his door (presumably asking for a cup of sugar), and fears breaking 800 pound space-traveling felines. I guess removing an alligator from a zoo and returning it would be no problem.
I hope Lemon is alive!
Well, off to the gym, afterwhich I transform into sensitive artist once again.
Have fun, and hello to all. Hopefully, everyone will be migraine-free today!
Take care,
Chuck

Well, her primary allergy is to cashews and pine nuts, so we avoid those assiduously. She had eaten a commercially-made Rice Krispies Treat(tm) - Chocolately Drizzle specifically. It wasn't until after we got her home that she spotted the little tiny note, way down at the bottom of the ingredient list - "May Contain Other Tree Nuts". Made me want to do my John Cleese impression - "Well, I hardly think that's good enough! I think it would be far more appropriate if the box bore a large red label - 'WARNING, LARK'S VOMIT!!'"
Ringworld quotes - I liked what Speaker-To-Animals had to say to Louis Wu, after Speaker's compatriot was forced to defuse the situation by apologizing. "Louis Wu, I found your challenge excessively verbose. In challenging a Kzin, a simple scream of rage is sufficient. You scream and you leap."

Just remember: She shouldn't eat anything on the days including and between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, nor on New Year's Eve. nor Day, nor Valentine's day, nor the Holiday of Nuts, nor any Tuesdays whatever, nor certain random other days. She should remain indoors, except when she should specifically be outdoors. Oh, heck. it will be easier if she just remains by your side at all times, and you can be the official taster. That should work. I think.

Thank you, I am feeling better this morning. The migraine disappeared soon after Chuck sent me to my oak tree to rest my head. I actually sat and crocheted on the custom jacket I am making for them to sell at the store. Put on some very loud music and let the stress drain away. It has also made me re-think this whole re-opening of the dayhome. It is reported that a childcare providers position has the same rate of burn-out as nurses and paramedics. It is very stressful to have someone elses children with you all day. I love them, but I don't love parents that walk in and tell me how my day is going to go because little Johnny wants to paint today, oh and he doesn't want a nap because he won't go to bed. Well, I would like someone to try to tell them that they aren't getting a lunch hour. Nap time is break time for me. I have 2 little girls in my care now and yesterday a parent (who has been my "friend" for 24 years) came in and informed me that her daughter will be here before 7 AM next Friday, and her mom will be watching her so the parent can go on a vacation to California so she'll be here 10 hrs a day for that week. We have a contract but it really doesn't seem to mean much. And I don't open until 8:00 AM. I just don't get people. And I avoid confrontation at all costs. If I go with an agency, they enforce the rules for me, but they also have surprise visits whenever they choose to make sure that all standards are being met. I HATE having visitors, even when I like them. It was so stressful when I went with an agency before that I really don't know if I want to go there again. I know, it isn't much to be in a tizzy about but apparently it is enough for me. Throw in the fact that the husband person doesn't want me to have other people's kids in our house and really doesn't want to see me sick and tired like I was last year at this time, and I believe it is enough to give someone a headache.
You are obviously going through the same kind of workplace stress. I think life is too short to be stressed out if you don't have to. If you can manage a job switch, I hope you go for it. I would hate to see you lose some of your love for animals because of the job you have working with them. I have seen that happen and it has happened at my house. My boys used to think all little kids were cute but they have seen so many little brats (and there have been some horrid ones) that now they all avoid little kids like the plague.
SLEEPYDRAGON, You are right, not much has changed except the harsh drugs they can now give you. I've tried them with limited success.
I have decided that the world does not need me smoking pot for any reason. I did do that when I was younger and I made my current self seem like a pessimistic grouch. I loved everyone and was positively giddy. There is a point where too much happy and light can be disgusting. Don't want to go there. And like I said, I already like to eat so I'm not taking any chances.

Chuck,I hope you are putting some of your humor to good use in your childrens books.You certainly make me get the giggles.
Nonscientific internet information....alert!alert!alert!
So,I did a little home experiment based on something I read in one of those "home remedies"(for people to poor or cheap to shell out for perscription or over the counter crap).I had several cuts on my hand from work related"get down,bad dog,bad dog" situations.(Just kidding,I never shame the dogs).Soooo,the suggestion was to clean the wound and put on a dap of honey instead of one of the antibacterial goos.I left it one one cut for 3 days and it is almost healed.The two cuts that received no "treatment or bandaid" are only a bit "healed".Test result...honey and bandaid caused 80%(OK,I just pulled that number out of the air)faster healing......If you buy honey from your local area it is also suposed to lessen allergic reactions to local plants.(The body gets "use" to the pollen particles in the honey and doesnt create the antihesitmines...plus it's good on buttered toast.)
