Rob, when you're talking to Helen, please say hello for me, I saw her new thread and a reply is gestating in my brain but it isn't quite "cooked" yet.

Quatermass, maaate!

Thanks! I should have all the spilt tea wiped off my monitor and keyboard any moment now. (wipes away tears of laughter)

Xan gets so full of "story" sometimes that I just have to let him talk and talk and talk until he's gotten it all out. If I try to shut him down, he goes red in the face, bounces up and down on the soles of his feet, and begins screaming in a register audible only to bats.

I had never realised that Little Red Riding Hood was a horror story!

Oh heavens yes, look at the vast majority of them. There are lifes lessons in those things. I don't think they tried to shelter the kids as much as we tend to. Let's face it, life back then was pretty much in your face, life was rougher. In the states, been a while, don't recall how many years back, it was very popular for books to be writen about the fairy tales. A lot of analysis cast in that direction. Think my Dad got into that little fad. I suspect many of them were around long before they were finally writen, their true origans probably never to be known. Some very common themes spread pretty widely cross culturaly and geographicly. hey the bible isn't any G rated thing either, they left a bunch of books out too, on purpose. Ever wonder where those wives for the adam and eve off spring came from? It has been writen. Banned in Boston and banned in Babylon.

We have been Disneyized. Them Mouse-ka-totties was just all so cuddley. Specialy that Annette.

I just don't want to know how many misspelled words in that. Sorry if I infected you. No known shots for what I gots. Well there are a couple, got any whisky?

Chuck, I liked your "variations on a theme of lemon". The video Lemon Tree Animation (with Subtitles) is cool.

One of my nephews has an ambition to become a screenwriter, and he put out a call for story ideas. So naturally I went and looked on the Net, and as you'd expect, there are scads of sites with lists of archetypal characters and plots and so on. "The [insert any number here] Universal Story Lines are... yada, yada, yada."

Yeah! And did they ever explain Lilith?

I was just going to start singing to myself like the day CC did when she was nicknamed Post Whore. She went into a thread of a ... crotchety.. OP with whom some of us had had interactions. No one was on that site so she kept posting, talking to herself and singing aloud. She was so funny. Eventually the OP came on line and snapped at her, calling her a post whore because she had submitted post after post.

I was about to start singing to myself in the same way, and begin mutterin here in this derelict place, when I see shapes. Hooray! There's Sleepy Dragon on her computer and Postpaleo with his dog, grimacing. Oh no, not grimacing! I think he's choking? laughing?? Oh, those grunts are laughter. Thank goodness you're not having a heart attack, PP!

I know that those stories are often horror stories, PP. The horror for me was to return to Mt Isa, hold up a picture book on Red Riding Hood and know that a local baby has been taken by a dingo. We were all horrorfied and shocked about what had happened.

The rumours that the child had been murdered hadn't surfaced then. But did the gossip hit the fan in about a week after that! Rednecks!

Sleepy Dragon, I didn't know that Helen was posting. She comes up tonight for her R&R. I'll see her as she heads b on her way to WP!!

Have I said that Aussie Boy is as happy as youngest daughter has seen him? (She's the one on R&R at the moment) Good old Tony Atwood's clinic!

Ah-ha! nannarob! I'm guessing you know all that Bible lore. Somebody in the "Last Person to Post" thread wants to know who is the author of the Ecclesiastes passage "To everything there is a season." (Huh? It's not Ecclesiastes?) :D

Chuck comes in wearing a feather headdress and grass skirt, shakes bones and a dead chicken, spins left three times hopping on one foot and points towards the night stars.

Malaysian Witch Doctor Suspected Of Burying Alien In Neighborhood Cemetery
July 25, 2007

A Malaysian witch doctor was detained by local police for questioning about the alleged aliens he buried in the neighborhood cemetery. The man was freed after he explained that banana tree trunks, not aliens, had been buried in a ceremony for "medicinal purposes," district police chief Haliludin Rahim told the press. Apparently the misunderstanding occurred after the gravediggers told some people that they were burying aliens and the rumor then spread out of control.

It is now out of my hands. What is writ is wrought.
Que sera, sera.

Incest. Lilith, no or if it was I don't know. Never got to read that book of the bible, just the cliff note version. Couldn't tell you if it had a name either. As I recall Adam and Eve had daughters as well. It was banned more on the principal that it wasn't good for the tribe to expand, same reason homosexaul acts were frowned upon. They weren't stupid in the sense that inbreeding wasn't working out to well. Put it in print that it was an ok thing and pretty soon you have trouble on the boss mans hands. It didn't make the tribe stronger, hence the taboo. It was in common circulation as a story, even during Jesus's day, it was actually left out when the books were finally rolled up into what we now generaly consider it to be. I'm not literate enough to know if it's still in the Jewish traditions. Many others left out as well. Some of the storys of Jesus as a kid are funny. Hard to have guessed he was going to go on to do what he did, although working miracles at even a tender age. Almost seemed like for his own amusement. Well I suppose a guy needs to practice.

Quote from Stephen Colbert: "The John Denver song 'Rocky Mountain High' is NOT about drugs. 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy', however, IS."

I see someone's started a thread about using marijuana, but I ain't goin' near it with a 10-foot cattle prod.

Lilith is a character from certain apocryphal texts, supposedly intended to supplant (or have been the original version of) the second chapter of Genesis, being the first woman, and Adam's original wife. As I understand it, she was supposed to have been banished for the sin of thinking independently of Adam, rather than being properly submissive.

If anyone here is familiar with Kabbalist writings, I understand the tale is presented somewhere therein...

Someone started a "thread" about the stuff. 8O Oops, I hope I didn't have anything to do with planting that idea.

Chuck, get dressed! If I was a witch, and I'm not admitting to anything here...... it would be more along the lines of Druids and Mother Earth. No chicken bones involved. Maybe a few scattered rune stones and a wild dance in the moonlight.

Aawww, Lauri, the mental image of Chuck in a grass skirt, hopping on one leg and trying to keep his headdress from falling off, was making me giggle.

That said, has the hocus-pocus had a beneficial effect yet? I'm also sending positive thoughts from way over here.

Oh sorry, Sleepydragon! Didn't know you were getting a kick out watching the show! I may have to stay away from here. I just spent 3 and a half hours sitting in the store knitting a hat, not a customer in sight. And there I was smiling like a silly fool and occasionally even fighting off a giggle, all thanks to funny men of WP. I have been accused of smiling to much before I came on here, now they must think I'm losing it.

hello. i have been reading some of the posts here, and wanted to say. um. well. uh. i am sort of shy here but.

I was born in 1952. I think that people "of a certain age" have a different form of literacy than people born in the last twenty or thirty years. The ability to communicate abstract thought in written form is a dying skill. I like reading posts from people who have that level of literacy. THanks for what I have read here.
