I lived near the Mennonites and Amish communities on the plains of Kansas.

We still have them here in Pennsylvania.....They don't have electricity in their houses but they are pretty clever with car batteries and diesel generators...

I laughed hysterically at this, and I have no idea why.

With my central processing disorder, this is how I hear (more or less - and some occasions are worse than at others depending if I am accustomed to the voice I'm hearing or not). That's why I go around laughing hysterically all the time. I'm thinking "I'm sure you didn't just say that! !!" I then try to figure out what it is that they did say, which oftentimes devolves into something worse. In the meantime, they are staring at the crazy laughing man with wtf expressions on their faces.

me:
them: 8O :?

Been lurking and thought I'd post a video of today's snowstorm. Taken at about noon, 150 miles NE of Chicago.

Winters, especially our storms, are one of the few times I feel "normal"..no one else want to leave their house either .

I'm amongst the walking wounded here...winter cold, sinus stuff and now the tooth is acting up again, appears my immune system is feeling a bit taxed of late . Seems to get worse around that "time of the month" thing .

Anyone ever have that "thing" where when you move your eyes, keeping head stationary, you get this sort of brain shocks/dizziness/wave feeling . I think it's sinus pressure related but reminds me of being "high" a bit..(and I use to pay to feel this way?) . Just wondering if anyone understood the chemistry/physiology of this ? It is like my early warning system that I'm about to get sick but I'm just curious if there is some dopamine or other brain chemicals at work because of the "high" feeling . It lasted about 3 days this time before the "cold" actually turned into symptoms...I was beginning to think brain tumor (I really want that MRI scan :D )

yeah, I remember that feeling, of turing my eyes all the way to one side or another and it giving me that virtigo-ish feeling but especially when I am ill with a cold or something. I remember from my meditation lessons when I was told the great yogis would always look up with their eyeballs in meditation to get that third eye stone, and I always wondered if my little look to the side trick was a sort of meditation.
Personally I love that little sideways eye stone, Krex. Glad to know it is an Aspie trait. I forget I am an Aspie sometimes.

That's where I live. Not long ago one of my husband's cousins were visiting from Colorado when she saw some approaching in a horse drawn carriage, and announced "look! there's some pilgrims!" I don't think she'll ever live that down, as she was completely serious.

this one's for Postie and Swampblossom,

What Do Retired People Do All Day?
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into town and went into a shop.
We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.
We went up to him and said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?'
He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres.
So my wife called him a dodo-head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age . . .
