I don't know if any of you noticed me running out of here screaming this morning. Here's why: This morning at 10 my 32 year old daughter with autism, mental retardation, bi-polar, OCD, and seizure disorder fell into the wooden box around the garbage can outside. She fell in headfirst between the can and the rough wooden walls and could not get out. The respite care provider could not get her out. She and the companion home provider could not get her out. The respite got me when the ambulance came. I live three blocks away. When I got there, 6 ambulance and firefighter pulled her out and I have spent most of today in the ER. She has just been admitted and my husband is there while I shower and eat, then I'll stay there until midnight when the care provider will take over. Then I'll probably take my daughter home in the morning. Her face has ballooned with swelling, so much so she can't see which bothers her immensely. She is all cut up and scraped and bruised. Cat Scan showed her bones ok. She kept moving so they could not get an MRI. They want to keep her until the swelling is gone.
But I think when she rips everything off and screams and runs down the hall naked, they will let me take her home sooner.

My daughter can open one eye now. In the late afternoon I took her home. She has some missing scalp we have to keep well medicined. Unless her scalp becomes infected, she should be okay. Thank you everybody.

Well, can't speak for the other guys, but I've been kind of boring lately - but at least I finally got my computer fixed (again)!

The long fix involved a broken cord leading to discovery of a broken connector pin on the motherboard, then liquid damage to the motherboard itself; while they were at it, I had the keyboard replaced because of the missing keys, and that took an extra week because the supplier misplaced the shipment.

Then a few days after I got it back, the computer fell off a low table - and landed directly on the plug in the back. No damage to the computer itself this time, thank Turing, but the plug was again damaged and had to be replaced. (I've since learned that this was common for HP and Compaq laptops until recently - the plug has been a known weak point. Now that they've adopted the industry standard of placing the cord plug on the side of the unit, this can be expected to improve...)

Finally got the new replacement a couple of days ago. It was kind of fun surfing the Net on H's loaner system (she took hers in for warranty service because the wireless card keeps dropping signal; they advised her that it would take up to six weeks and gave her a loaner replacement, so I lacked access to a lot of my software and music entirely. Yesterday, they called and advised that her computer would have to go back to the Fujitsu factory for proper repairs - so that's another six to eight weeks...), but no Skype, no WoW until I finally just gave up and downloaded the silly thing, none of my current computer games. I actually had to interact with external reality! Thank heavens that's over! :geek:

That doesn't refer to me, does it? Got to check on who's got me at the moment and on how manly I am. Let's see:
Hair in inconvenient places? Yes.
Burps loudly after a meal? No.
Supports at least one sports team? No.
Gets drunk with his buddies? No.
Expensive toys? Guilty. Well, depends on what you see as expensive.
Tool fetish? Moderate.
Discusses female attractiveness with his buddies? No.

It seems debatable whether I should be counted as one of the men. And no one seems to have me at the moment. OK, so I don't have to be anywhere, I can just be somewhere. I'll just ricochet around a bit. Kapwingggg!

Does that mean I don't need to be manly in the classical mould, or that I am yours anyway? :D

I thought I better search for classical mould. I found this:
Image
How manly is that! It's still not quite right. It's missing the fungoid overtones I associate with mould. Like this:
Image
Still not quite right. The manliness is missing. OK, manly, and classical. How about this? Is that man enough to warm any woman's heart?

(With thanks to Merle. I think you spotted that one?)
