Sweating on test results is never much fun, especially when the news looks like it'll be bad. :(

Speaking of family cats:

hermitaceous, adj. The property of being rich in hermits. For example “This mountain is very hermitaceous”. Hermitaceousness is self-limiting because when the density of hermits becomes high, they cease to be hermits. Also see hermitiferous.

That website is truly a labour of love.

I like this bit of the Bayeux Tapestry, with Halley's Comet pictured on it.

Ain't technology grand, Richie? I hear a number of US Federal websites are/have been down as well - cyber attack. Looks like South Korea got popped, too. Geee, I wonder who (oh, as if). So, your lack of internet isn't entirely your computer....

Sleepy, I didn't comment. You have one handsome puddy tat there.

Spike is hormonal today, in the midst of an egg-laying cycle. HeaveCliff is doing quite well. Most of his head is healed, and that which is not healed completely appears to be healing well. We are hoping his feathers will come back in at his first molt. He's eating very well and is, in fact, rather large for a Zebra finch. The wrong colors, too. Looks very much like the Society finches... hmmmm.

Squabie is also doing very well. I will be grabbing him/her this next weekend to decide which it is (a him or a her) and then hoping to come up with a good name. S/he is now eating seeds on his/her own and so can safely be considered out-of-the-woods as far as being raised. With parents whose names are Chicken and Chickenette, the poor thing is kind of doomed. I did suggest Egbert II or Gilderstern, but the kid says we have to wait to know the gender before we hang a name on the poor animal.

Never made a difference before.

Just what I need. Where can I order?
Image

I had some left over, and it worked wonders. I already had a brilliant idea. Superheroes and super villains need the right sort of name, yes? Something that conveys the essential character in two words. So how about Darth Fauntleroy vs Captain Cuddles?

Does anyone know why superhero is one word and super villain two? This is going to bug me all day now. Please help.

A difficult challenge. Noticing the whip I choose to interpret the challenge as finding those who suffer more for the sake of their animal passions. Hedgehogs come to mind:

Lovemaking hedgehogs disturb the peace in Germany
Tue Jul 24, 2007 8:49pm BST

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police called to investigate unusual noises in the garden of a Bremen house late on Monday were surprised to find that a pair of amorous hedgehogs were to blame.

After illuminating the garden with spotlights, officers discovered the animals making love beside the pond.

"The pair were loudly engaged in ensuring the continuity of their species," said Bremen police spokesman Ronald Walther.

"All those spectators did not worry them in the least, indeed they even intensified their activities, so the officers turned off the lights," he added.

The hedgehog breeding season runs from April to September and their lovemaking is typically accompanied by very loud puffing and snorting, usually by the female as she tries to ward off the male.

What do they mean, "tries to ward off the male"? 8O I would have thought the male would need a great deal of cooperation from the female, and she'd have no trouble at all warding off any male. Like it says in Nanny Ogg's favourite song. Which I will not quote. For the sake of the children.
