Pentazocine, long an abused drug among the medical community, has become popular among street addicts. The tablet form of pentazocine is combined with the antihistamine, tripelennamine, dissolved in water, and injected intravenously. This combination is known as "T's and Blues." Prescribing physicians should be aware of the abuse of these two drugs, particularly since pentazocine in tablet form is often considered of low abuse potential. Patterns of abuse, serious medical complications, and treatment considerations are discussed.

(JAMA 244:1224-1225, 1980)

The oral form of pentazocine wasn't all that impressive a pain reliever or a
drug of abuse. However, it gained notoriety in Europe among street addicts by
dissolving the tablet: talc, other excipients as well as a small amount of
drug, in water, and then injecting _THAT_ mixture IV <shudder>. It became even
more popular as part of a combination of tablets disssolved in water and the
sludge injected called "T's and Blue's": consisting of the Talwin tablet and a
blue tablet of the CIBA antihistamine PBZ, or tripelennamine. This was supposed
to give the mixture much more of a "kick", although there's no reason why I
would expect this to be so, unless you like the way any antihistamine makes you
drowsy.

Yikes! to think what I missed and I had to settle for Peruvian flake and Clear Light in Berkeley!

14688 Gnb1 "guanine nucleotide binding protein (G protein), beta 1"

they haven't been able to run the test yet because the test is so nonstandard that the office staff at baylor don't have a cpt code for it and without the code the specialist's office can't tell the HMO what it is they want ordered. the office staff at baylor are, apparently, having to track down some research nerds to find out what kind of test will give the specialist basically the same info and what the CPT billing code for that is. the specialist's assistant then has to send that info to the HMO, who will run it by a committee to see if they'll pay for it.

sigh.

i spent yesterday's furlough day shampooing the living roomcarpet. once it's done it'll be done and won't need to be done for a while. i managed to not do this all in june as i usually do. shouldn't have put it off. and it took my mind off the fact that i wasn't at work and wasn't getting paid for the day. i've got 15 more of these days to deal with for the year. at least they're not making us take them all at once - or rather, i wouldn't mind taking them all at once and considering it an unpaid vacation, but they're docking our pay evenly over time and are making us portion the days out so we don't "disrupt operations". disrupting our lives is fine, but heaven forbid we inconvenience.... nevermind.

I am waiting for the crisp cool air of autumn.

And wondering if they have a Red Hat society chapter for Deaf/Autistic women.

Usually those things are up to those who suggest them. Since we are in the autism spectrum forward shock troops, maybe it is up to us to start one?

It is an interesting glacier. I assume naturally occurring as the woman's face?

Possibly we could just have a virtual chapter of Red Hats here?

I am 52. If I remember right, you only get to wear pink and lavender until 55.

then I can wear dark crimson! I went to the website for the RedHats and sort of shyed off from the commercialism of the venture. When anyone mentions AARP (mostly taken over by big insurance companies) I tend to shy away.

AARP - ohmygod, once you get on their mailing list you are done for. i joined for one year, based on the discounts a friend of mine said i could get on hotels, etc. turned out to be no better than AAA, and i was constantly bombarded with "buy our insurance" flyers. that was a few years ago and i'm STILL getting a ton of mail from AARP, even after i phoned them and asked them to please stop sending me stuff....

I joined just when I turned 50 and ditched it within the first three months. Like most coupons, I didn't use the products they advertised, anyway, but until I moved three times and never changed my address with them, I finally dropped off their radar.

It hasn't arrived here yet, but is at least cool enough that our air conditioning works.

I know no one wants to hear about the steady drizzle today interspersed with sunbreaks and showers. I didn't even turn on my AC today. but Mercury turns retrograde tomorrow and for the next three weeks will be delays and PC problems and fierce weather. I might have to move further up the coast and live in British Colombia at the rate the climate is changing. I was hoping to end my days in Oregon, but I can't take the heat in the Summer.
