exactly. Be glad AK is so big, you might have a lot of company migrating back across the Aleutian chain.

yeah on migrating up the coast.

we're in a "cooling off" period (low 90s) and are to expect more heat in a few days. so far (knocking on wood) no santa anas in the forecast. usually if we make it to halloween, we're clear. this is supposed to be an el nino year, but it's not acting at all like the last big el nino year so far. hopefully it will change. last el nino we had days and days of cool and gray, and rain until the river flooded the mall (which is quite a sight). so far, all we've got is a couple of lost 90Fs days and then back to the heat, and a lot more humidity than i remember.

i have always loathed summer, and here summer starts in june and doesn't end until late october. so when all the leaves should be turning pretty colors and dropping because it's autum, they're just dropping from lack of water. if they haven't been cinderized by a fire. i really, really don't think it was all this hot for such a long time, and with such humidity, when the kid was toodling around on her tricycle and watching sesame street. i do remember some hot weather, and some santa anas, but i don't remember it going on for weeks at a time like this.

oh well. at least we have an a/c now, and we didn't then.

the cat threw up on my freshly shampood carpet overnight.

Found my cat dead on his favorite chair on Labor Day. Nothing was open, the cops sent animal control, but they said keep the body overnight, so we did.

Just back from taking poor Fluffy for cremation. He was only 13, but had Mitral valve insufficiency.

On the whole I wish I could have cleaned up cat vomit instead.

Our youngest dog keeps looking for him.

it's always that way, botti. when we lost our old cat (not sure of his exact age, around 20, we guess) last year, i would have been happy to still have him barfing and peeing anywhere, just so he was still there. still, they've only got a while on earth, per life, and when the time is up they have to go. my condolences to you and your child.

well, it just keeps getting better and better.

got back to work today after the holiday. an email was waiting to let me know the son of a friend of ours is in critical condition with numerous injuries after being thrown out of a pickup truck in a head-on collision in which several other people were killed (nobody wore seatbelts). next message was that one of our key employees got hit by a car while bicycling to work and we don't know his status. someone hacked into the server over the weekend so the organization has taken it offline, meaning about 200 people can't get to their websites or their emails and are unhappy. we have a possibly homicidal/suicidal ex student threatening mayhem. the voicemail system is on the fritz - i just listened to voicemails i deleted four months ago - and incoming messages are not being recorded. or, if recorded, only partially. this building doesn't have indoor plumbing. and the plumbing in the other building has decided to grace us with an excess of water - rather interesting geyser there. and, of course, it's hot.

sigh. what - ever.

on the good side, the kid has another job interview tomorrow. had a verbal by phone today and they want her to come in tomorrow to see the place. :)

Heads up.
Mercury will stop in his tracks and start
backing up on the bases on Sept 6. Yes,
another Mercury Retrograde is just around
the corner and that means three weeks of
delays, schedule changes, powerful weather
events and computer problems are ahead.
Tidy up your desk today and complete all
the transactions you can. A Full Moon first
week in Sept. points you in the same direction: get
the important stuff at work done by Friday.
Another powerful Saturn Uranus opposition
also shows up this month and will add an
unpredictable/rebellious energy to the playground.
This is not your normal Skywatch for
the first month of school—tell your friends.
Kids won’t settle down, things won’t seem
secure and you’ll have reason to think about
making changes. Wait until after Mercury
returns to direct motion on the 29th before
you pull the trigger on changes this month
as this is when things will begin to settle
down and progress will be on the horizon

Well, on the plus side, Morgana went back to school this morning, and Iain should be able to get his missing inoculation at his doctor's appointment this afternoon so he can start preschool on Monday. And Apple Records is releasing the remastered Beatles catalog today, along with "Rock Band: the Beatles" (all in honor of Revolution No. 9, of course).

Downside is, J's unit deploys back to Iraq today.

So, adding up the positives and negatives and taking an average, today pretty much sucks.

Which were made from these previously-completed canes:

I've also had some expressions of interest by a couple of retail shops who want to sell what I make. Who knows, I might even cover my expenses! :D
