I've also had some expressions of interest by a couple of retail shops who want to sell what I make. Who knows, I might even cover my expenses! :D

Thanks, Merle. :)

I put the canes in the fridge to cool them down, then slice them with a tissue blade. Here's another way a tissue blade can be used with polymer clay. Scroll down to Figure G and click the + in the corner of the pic for a closer view.

Oh, that's so cool! And to maybe even cover costs, hey, you never know? You might someday be an "in demand" haute couture artist commanding vast sums of money. (yes, the heat has melted my brain.) Pretty!

Yesterday we went to the Rescue League to save someone, as the cat's death opened a spot in our home.

We came home with Joey. A five year old Pekingese who had been abused and neglected and who feels like a skeleton.

In spite of all he has gone through he trusts us, and follows us and has a million watt smile. He thinks my young Shih Tzu is quite a pretty girl. She thinks he is something from outer space and keeps running away from him. But she did play with him a little at bedtime last night.

This is Joey!

It's getting interestinger and insterestinger [sic] around here. The big researcher's union on campus has called for a strike on the 24th, the first day of classes. 8O

In today's city newspaper, they're saying they're gonna raise tuition by 30% in the upcoming year (they've already raised it twice in the past year). Apparently a large percentage of faculty are ready to support the strike - hard to say, lot of rhetoric going on, really - so the place next is likely to look like it did back in the 1960s, with banners, marchers, bullhorns, etc. I wonder what the poor little freshmen off for their first day at uni are going to think about this!?

I guess I'll sneak in the back way and observe.

Yah, interestinger and interestinger. :? merle, when is mars supposed to stop whatever it's doing again???

Another powerful Saturn Uranus opposition
also shows up this month and will add an
unpredictable/rebellious energy to the playground.
This is not your normal Skywatch for
the first month of school—tell your friends.
Kids won’t settle down, things won’t seem
secure and you’ll have reason to think about
making changes. Wait until after Mercury
returns to direct motion on the 29th
before
you pull the trigger on changes this month
as this is when things will begin to settle
down and progress will be on the horizon

sigh. the 29th is a looooong way away, merle.

just got back from skyshow - massive fireworks show down in mission valley. they must have spent the equivalent of the combined total gdp of several small third world countries in about 45 minutes there. my retinas are just now settling back down. ate supper at ikea after doing some shopping, then waited in the parking lot for the show. it's always amazing. better choreographed in prior years, but what they lacked in music/light choreography they made up in sheer mass of color.

nice night for it, too. whomever managed to deliver the cool sea breezes, thanks!

Okay, so H has been looking at dogs on CraigsList so we can get one when we get our house (assuming that works out...). So this morning, she started scanning through the listings to distract herself from J's deployment.

Now, down in Toledo, WA, there's a breeder who specializes in training assistance dogs for autistics, inspired by his aspie son. Normally, they run upwards of $600 a pop; however, once per year, they give one dog away for free. Today was that day for this year. Guess which ad H found?

So now we have a golden lab pup, named Plex (because like Morgana's favorite character on Yo Gabba Gabba!, the puppy is yellow and eager to help). 'Gana's still getting used to him, but he's ready to provide all the calming she needs - and I think he's going to be helpful with Iain's ADD too.

Deacon Blues, oh WOW!

And to change gears here, I just finished reading To The Ends Of The Earth, another mystery about Bugman by Tim Downs that I enjoyed as much as I have all of his other Bugman books. Bugman, who calls all the other humans another species meets an autistic girl.

I love this website, it is always so right on and nails it completly

Monday, September 14:
Caution lights.

The big event in the heavens this month is conservative Saturn lining up opposite unpredictable and rebellious Uranus. This pair has been dancing in the Skywatch on and off since last year. And brings up the idea in our lives of responsibility vs. freedom. This is typically a stressful aspect that often unbolts cannons that then roll dangerously across the deck.

Teachers, parents and educators need to know this is an unusual, once-in-40-year event. They will feel it, too: This need to preserve the status quo while adding something new or unconventional to their day. Add Mercury Retrograde to this picture and the level of confusion rises to the point that you are cautioned about making major changes in September to a situation that has worked in the past.

Wait until after Mercury turns direct on the 29th and this extremely tense opposition begins to dissolve and weaken. And when we return to a more normal pattern.

Stick to routine on Monday. The Moon turns Void of Course at 8:57AM until she enters roaring Leo at 5:39PM. Keep it simple and safe Monday night. (I’ll take the underdogs in tonight’s football game. I suspect a trick play will work—Uranus. Saturn could bring knee/bone injuries.)

All times given are U.S. Central time. That's Chicago on the World Clock.
